bleaching undyed cotton

I have an unbleached cotton chemise with a tiny bit of lace at the cuffs and collar. Now that I'm wearing it with upperclass garb, id like to bleach it white. Looked online for instructions, but didn't come up with much on how to handle unsure cotton.

Has anyone done this before, or have any recommendations?

Hydrogen Peroxide and a gallon or two of water is also a method of bleaching. It doesn't take a whole lot of the peroxide in the water. But, don't try it without some thorough investigating...

Doing it in the washing machine seems like it would produce an uneven dye job. But really, I know nothing about it. Should I use regular laundry bleach or a dye kit?

Try Rit Color Remover. I used it to remove dye stains from one of Milord's shirts. It took out the stains beautifully--but it also turned his creamy-white shirt into a much brighter white.

Normally to do a dye/bleach job I used an old soap detergent bucket. The two gallon kind. And then I put items into the mix of water/bleaching agent and stir it around with a stick for about 15 minutes and then let it sit. Stir it around again every so often, depending on the strength of your mixture. I would make sure whatever you do that the water will sufficiently dillute bleaching agents so you don't melt the shirt, figuratively.  Stiring will also ensure you get an even bleach.


But... the Rit Color Remover sounds like a much simpler solution.
