Lady Laura

Hi all,

I respect every opinion on this forum and wanted to get your input.

After reading (and posting) on the TRF Facebook page about the noise level/lasers with certain "campers", I'm kicking around the idea of drafting and circulating a petition at camp to be presented to the TRF office requesting they ban any sound equipment run off generators and any laser lights being used in camp along with a sound ordinance to be enforced after a certain time of night.

So please respond with your thoughts.

That seems to be the consensus.  I say go for it.

That's what family camping is for.  Quiet area away from the main campground.  Unless things have changed since last year, Family is far enough away you shouldn't really hear much from the other side.

it's changed. People in houses two to three miles away who have nothing to do with faire are complaining about the noise.

I am loud and I like to party.  This is so far outside the realm of what's even normal for the regular camping area that it's in a category all its own.  If you are a FB member, go to TRF's page and under "Info" there's a thread about it with, so far, 82 responses from not only patrons, but participants complaining that it's even keeping them up in their camping area.  That's a first.

I camped once just to say I did it. Now I can say never again. The craziness goes all-freakin-night-long.

They wont do anything about it considering there is no sound cut off in the main camping area. As for the lasers and other stuff go for it.

Lady Laura, I am not an FB user but I am all for your petition.  Unfortunately, I won't be back into the campground until Closing weekend.  Please run with it.  Elimination of all amplified music would be lovely, but a curfew for anything other than acoustic is just as tolerable.  We want to keep our acoustic instruments playing, even all night is fine with me.

there are a few websites that allow you to write a petition and have people sign it all online. That might be a good idea for those of us not camping until later in the season.

Yeah. RIGHT!  When's the last time you camped within 200-300 yards of trains, screaming by at full horn blasting run throughout the night?  Every time they roar through, the noise that is left behind is the sound of crying and whimpering children stirring in their tents.  Parents tune this out, the rest of us hear them and take note.

Quiet family camping is by no means quiet, it's main benefit is that it's isolated enough to not be appealing to scum and thieves.  Nice that people have to resort to this just to get away from the rabble.

I do have to admit that the multiple flippant responses of "Don't like it, go to quiet camping" are rather irritating. The problem isn't with the families and folks who can party in moderation and relative civility, so why should they be punished and sent off to BFE because they are upset with the actions of a bunch of asshats, the majority of which aren't even attending the faire? Please come up with a more constructive suggestion that actually addresses the problem rather than blowing people off.

Couldn't agree more Breandan.

Singed

There are dozens, if not hundreds of participants that would sign this petition as well if you put it in front of them somehow.

I'm not sure it is necessary though, Terre Albert has been earning more of my faith lately and I hope (actually I think) now that the extent of the problem is out in the open and he sees the effect on and level of anger in both patrons and participants, something is going to change for the better in this regard.

I'm not saying don't keep the pressure up, TRF has always been slow to respond to campground issues if they respond at all.  I'm not saying don't do the petition, there is strength in numbers and showing the number of people affected and angry may just give Mr. Albert the ammo he needs to ram changes through George (if ramming must be done).  I imagine showing George the numbers, including lost revenue from angry long time campers, surly, sleep deprived participants, potential exposure to a huge liability suit and more ill will from the local non-rennie community may make it an easier battle.

I just kind of feel like we might have someone on our side in this fight now.

Lady Laura

Very well stated Singed. The one thing that stays in the back of my mind is that by forcing the issue, he might see it as more trouble than it's worth and close camping altogether.

As I mentioned in the other thread, Terra emailed me and said they are handling it. Crossing my fingers and hoping AHE will be back to just normal craziness :)
