Well the admins of that page deleted the discussion thread that was going on where they were being asked to figure out ways to muffle the sound, etc.  Guess it would have looked like too much of a downer for the invitees lol.  Don't get me wrong, I am all about folks having a good time but I don't get the whole rave/faire combo.  Maybe I'm just gettin' old... gonna go cry in the corner now....

It's simple...there's no combo here per say. It's a large enough area to sustain their needs, it's cheap, and there's copious amounts of booze allowed. It's what we do, just with way more asshattery, a lack of decency and respect for your neighbors, a majority of bad music choices, and 40 billion candlepower strobes....Though I was digging the Legend of Zelda dubstep last year, just not at 4am and 747 take-off decibels...Also, where was the obligatory Zombie Nation 'Kernkraft 400' song? I thought was a raver law.

"MOUSE,n. "Animalistic man-child which strews it's path with fainting woman"....less so these days :)

there is a significant problem with this that I think some folks are overlooking- by letting these people in, they ARE going to try and break the rules, people ARE going to complain (and not just from TRF, either, half of Grimes County raised hell about it last year as the rave could be heard for miles), and campground security is going to have to respond, quite often... which in turn takes them away from being elsewhere and preventing other, worse crimes. Every time a deputy has to go out and shut these chucklenuts up, that is one less deputy keeping an eye out for underage drinking, theft, rape, assault, etc. This is a financial triage thing- they do not bring enough money into TRF to be worth the trouble they WILL cause. George may override people with more common sense than he on this, as I doubt Terre is so blind as to not see the hazards of letting these schmucks be unleashed (especially since Terre doesn't pocket any of the gate/camping money and has less incentive to allow idiots in to make a quick buck), but mark my words- let them in, trouble WILL ensue. Not "might", not "could", it WILL ensue. I know these people, I've tossed enough of them into the back of a squad car and know how anti-authoritarian they are, to the point of borderline sociopathy, and they see rules as things to be broken for fun (or, as they say it, "for the lulz").

That's when the Tazers and pepper spray come in, Brother Breandan!  I'll even bring a supply in case they run out...  ;)

;D

Ever zap a raver with 750k volts?  :o

I doubt anyone would notice, the difference between the average raver dancing and being tazed is pretty minimal :D

That being said, I would prefer that management handle this BEFORE it becomes an issue, because as much as a lot of us may talk about taking a chunk out of them, there are plenty of people out in the campgrounds AND surrounding residential areas who WILL act. If being tied to drug-filled noisy raves full of underage kids drinking and getting stoned wasn't bad enough (and yes, this is the current rep TRF's campground has courtesy of the last few years), add assaults and drunken vigilantism to the mix and TRF will wind up getting some SERIOUSLY bad PR for years as a result. If its about the money, fine- let them pay to get in, buy tickets and camping passes, and THEN boot them when they start to get out of hand, no refunds.

WOW CAN I GET AN AMEN?!?!?! I don't mind ravers, in fact I have been there and done that, just not at TRF.I agree that if security is dealing with this it is taking them away from other issues, and since our camp was one of the many that had many things stolen last year, and the year before had a drunk come up and suddenly start hitting one of our guys ( to which by the time security got there had been umm subdued by us) I am tired of it! TRF camping is already getting a bad rap. I work in a small local bar and when people hear I am into faire they always say " wow you camp? I heard that gets crazy. There is no way I would camp out there." It breaks my heart. I always felt like it was not faire without camping. This is the main reason we are not going AHE which will be the first time we have missed in me 4 years, my husband 10!

Autumn Blaize

Let me rephrase that...I don't mind ravers staying in a club that is built for ravers. I am 100% sure there was not strobe lights or loud music in renaissance times ;P

Ravers are wise to stay away from the lower numbered rows.  The larger clans police their own areas fairly well...

I have no problem lighting up someone (Zap) and doing a tap dance on their ribs... then duct taping them in a porta loo... and knocking it over.  ;D

Something about being covered in feces and dyed blue tends to straighten a person's outlook on life...

I can't see the page any longer.  I guess they changed it to invite only and since I didn't join it, no updates for me.

Like Lady Laura posted in the other thread, there will be new rules about amplified music.  I am wondering if anyone posted about that on the rave page.  Can anyone else see that page?

BTW- Y'all crack me up!  :D

Glad to see what will be in play.  I do have a couple of questions.

When will the rave group on FB be made aware of this?

On the quiet/family camp area.  You stated generators will need to be off by a certain time.  What about folks that camp there that need power for medical devices and such?  Will they have to camp in the general area?  If so, I am wondering about the general noise that they will be around that they most likely hoped to be away from, etc.....   We don't camp there, so I don't know if there already is a generator noise restriction from previous years.

We will work out the medically necessary generator usage with the folks as they express the need. That includes folks camping with young children that need air conditioning at night, folks with sleep apnea monitors, and any other concerns. We have more than enough area in the new campgrounds area to place folks needing to run generators all night. We hope that they will have quiet generators as to not disturb their neighbors

Way to go Mike and the rest of the Faire management.  If y'all stick to your guns I foresee a more pleasurable camping experience in the near future.  It may even return back to the sociable camping it was back 10, 15 even 20 years ago.

Have not camped at TRF in many years, but maybe, just maybe, in the future.

Unfortunately, rest of family not interested in tenting any more - got used to having their own shower, toilet, a/c, continental breakfast, etc.  I'm content for now with the yearly season at Sherwood.

Thanks, Mike, for all your hard work.  TRF camping is sure to be enjoyable for more patrons with your experience.

This year will be the first for the wife and I in the campgrounds and between the new changes and the huge community involvement I'm seeing, I want to camp more than ever! Bring on the ravers, I think you all can take 'em.

Just saying...

We're fairly peacable folk... no matter what people may think.   ;)
