Festmum, keep drinking and hide all the sharp and pointies. Hell, if I were you, I'd make a fort in the living room out of bathtubs, you know, for protection. Oh! And line it in pillows!

No bathtubs here. All showers to conserve water!  Speaking of which...I was so desperate for a shower (as city water isn't working for the 2nd day)  that I put on a bikini...stood on the back deck with shampoo and shower gel.  I'm squeaky clean!!!

Well it looks like we'll have to wait a few more days for Kyle. Invest 90 petered out.
Looks like Festmum has a front row seat for Hanna, Ike and Josephine though.

Hanna has now gone all the way around our island and is now sitting southwest of Grand Turk moving Northeast.... at 2 miles an hour.  She is predicted to intensify in the next 24 hours back to hurricane strength.  I'm hoping that she does that AFTER she passes us again.  We've already seen around 8 inches of rain.  It has stopped for the moment but we will have more later.

All incoming ships have been cancelled for the week including the supply ships.  Living off of what is already here until the supplies can come in again.  Good thing I have a full pantry and a 5 gal jug of water.

Ike is following the same path as Hanna...so far.  Needless to say it will be an  interesting weekend.  I have switched to the water in the cistern as city water is still out.  Power and communication is sporadic so there is no telling when I can be online and not.  Power went off twice while trying to type this update.

The eye of Hanna came by this afternoon giving us quiet wind and sunny skies.  Winds have now picked up on the West (the side of the island I live on).  Seas are getting very rough.  Looks like it's going to be a rough night.  I have MOST of my Hurricane shutters closed, candles, flashlights ready, battery powered radio, and my  animals to keep me company.

Wish me luck!  I'm powering down the computer, covering it with a tarp, and going to the center of the house to watch Lord of the Rings till the power goes.  Hopefully I will be back online tomorrow to let you know how things are.

Well it looks like it won't be Hanna poor Festmum has to worry about, it will be Ike! 

It's predicted to follow the same path as Hanna but it's already a hurricane, so that can't be good...

Looks like Ike is taking a slightly different path and dipping a bit farther south and then west toward the tip of Florida. I'm not sure where your island is Festmum, but hopefully this one will skirt rather than hit head on.

Joshephine is expected to stay a tropical storm.

Ike is now predicted to be a cat 4 hurricane by the time it reaches the Bahamas!!!

Let's all hope for a hard right turn so it can wander off harmlessly into the Atlantic!!!

Hi all!  Hanna has left the area....finally.  She picked up speed (12 mph) and moved north.  Things are quiet for the moment with the exception of the surf which most Hawaiian surfers would love right now.  Thanks so much for the well wishes.  Keep them coming.  I was just awakened by a governmental text message regarding Ike. 

Ike is already a Category 4 hurricane and is definitely headed our direction.  Our tiny island is located just about 125 miles north of Haiti/Dominican Republic.

Here's what the text said:

Disaster Mgmt advises that TCI remains under a Hurricane WArning and could feel the effects of Hurricane Ike, currently a Category 4 hurricane within 48 hours. 

A second message just came in reminding us to secure everything and make sure we have enough emergency supplies.

What that means is I have to do some serious thinking as to whether I need to go to the shelter or if I will be safe in my home.  Not much time to make up my mind. 

I just hope Ike loses energy as quickly as he got it.  I really don't want to have to weather a Cat. 4 hurricane on a 7 mile island.
