Alisoun, as always, just lovely!!  Did you use a pattern for the kirtle?

Alisoun

Thanks, Gem.  I used Margo Anderson's Tudor pattern for the kirtle.  I shortened the bodice in the middle of the pattern [as usual] to fit my pre-pregnancy underarm-to-waist measurement.  Then, I shortened it another inch at the seam, when attaching the skirt, so that the bodice would stop just above the expanding belly.

Be aware that you ribcage also expands , as do the boobs themselves, when you are preggy, especially in the second half.  I went from a 36DD to a 40F by the end...

Alisoun!!  Lovely gown for when pregnant. Congratulations!!!

The new Margo Anderson Tudor pattern is a keeper. I used that for Lady de Laney's latest Tudor gown. I like the fact that the Over Gown grommets in the front with a Placket front that folds over and hooks to smooth out the front, and can be made for while pregnant.

The Kirtle pattern works slick as well for a simple under or over dress. You can expand your piece well after the baby is born to a more full Tudor ensemble.

Here are parts one and two of my maternity garb in progress: a high-necked smock and linen kirtle with a shortened waistline, that I should be able to wear with or without a loose outer gown.  Next up for the kirtle: secure the shoulder straps, hem, trim, and add lacing in one side for an inner pocket, since I can't wear a belt and need to avoid carrying my heavy basket.  Then, I can move onto the loose gown and accessories.

Congratulations Alisoun,

I hope you make sure to tell us when the blessed event happens! Good luck! The heavy basket? That is what hubby's are for no? LOL When are you due?  So excited for you!

Today I cut out the Velveteen, 2 layers of Canvas Duck, Lining, and Underlining for the Pelican Portrait gown.

The underlining is denim I had left over to give the Velveteen body. I will be marking in places where I need to make slashes to have poofs of silk pop through. I have started to work on the back with rows of pearls before In embellish in the design that is down the front of the overskirt.

So in a fit of restlessness this evening, my pink nobles gown kept calling to me.  And unfortunately, I could no resist, so I started working on her.  I took in the sides of the bodice a bit since it was too large. It fits perfect now.  I hemmed the bottom of the skirt, and then sewed the bodice to the skirt. I made some major headway on this!  I need to add trim, hem the skirt opening, and then make the underskirt.  Here is what it looks like right now:

Looking good so far!

Lady Season!  Does your farthingale have hooping or tubing in the channels? You might need to adjust your farthingale a bit to get more of the A/bell shape.  That will help the underskirt look better when you get it made.

Can't wait to see the finished product.

it has hooping in the channels.  I brought the hoop skirt from an antique store a while back. im not sure if i can go in the channels and adjust it.  It has that odd look now because my dress dummy is broken (the main support pole is cracked) so I have to lean her up against things, and I think because of that it gives the hoop skirt a funky look.

I was thinking that a hoop skirt is necessary.

I want to bead all those intersections! bwaaa haaa haaa.
I'm sure the hoops looks better when the dress is upright.

Yes! I want to bead them too! But I do not have the patience to do so. The underskirt is a similar pattern, with the diamond shapes, and I am tempted to bead those too!

And it definitely looks better when it is upright.
I'll be putting on the entire get up soon so I can show you

I can't wait to see how your gown turns out, Lady Season. So far, it appears it will be lovely.

The altered Bodice mockup ready to cut on the canvas duck. There are 2 layers. I used the other pieces to cut out the Velveteen, Lining, and Underlining.

The Bodice back embellished. The Denim Underlining was a perfect fit to do the pearling by adding body without puckering or stretching out of shape. The jewels were glued on in place, then tacked down within the design edge. The chalk marks are where I am going to so slashing and have silk poofing out.

One side of the Bodice front marked where I will pearl, embellish, and make slashes for the Silk. It's coming along.
