Jacqueline,

The Burgandy Doublet is a medium wale corduroy I bought the last of a bolt of at a Fabric Warehouse outside Minneapolis Spring of 2009. The underlining is a Black Quilter's broadcloth, then lined. I wish there had been more of that fabric for other projects. That particular Corduroy is a great weight for Doublets and Paned Slops.

Here are some pics of my first ever pleats, my mom helped, very frustrating, and I am pretty sure I screwed-up an early step, but I have commited already to making this thing right or wrong, I will figure out where I screwed up after it is done.
X-Kilt, arrgh!!!

I see your fabric weight is hard at work again!   ;D

Pleats are looking good.

Today I did 12ft of hem, I know, a hemmed kilt is a nice skirt, but that was just something I wanted to do, judge me if you must.
12ft of folding and ironing is no joke!
Hemming is the easy part!

I have a headache, it is 3:15 am here, but I kinda feel like I need to sew-up my pleats, hate to leave a bunch of pins in some fabric overnight, who knows what could happen!!! :P

ArielCallista

hopefully your cat is smart enough to not attack the pins...mine isnt :( I have a tomato pin cushion that my cat likes to attack...its got needles in it too...she tends to get stabbed more than once before realizing she should leave it alone.
Things are shaping up to be...
Pretty. Odd.

Try 25m of ribbon-edged hem...

And yes, the frills are pleated to the foundation layer!

I have a skirt that when all the yardage is added its like 35 to 45 yards. It looks kinda like Kate's but fluffier.

Great looking Kilt!!!

Kate!! The  19th Century gown looks super!!  Can be for Dickens as well.

The unfinshed Shoulder rolls for the Pelican Portrait gown so far.

Using the Janet Arnold Pattrns of Fashion book to draft the pattern for the Shoulder rolls. Where the pearl rows are the widest, I am going to sew a dart so that the rolls curl on the shoulder. I sewed all the pearls by hand, stringing them first with a  seperate needle and thread, then with another needle and thread, slipped stitched underneath to secure them. I underlined the velveteen to maintain shape before all is finished, handsewn the embellishments, then closed and stuffed.

The wider set of rows will be embellished to look like the front  panels of the Overskirt. The narrower rows, will have the Emerald jewels and silk poofs.

Just an idea as to how the shoulder rolls will look. I have the bodice mockup marked to the client's body type so that I can get the Duck layers cut out, then the fabric itself. The bodice is going to take a number of hours to do and embellish.

Awesome, thank you! I love that corduroy, it's just gorgeous.

One shoulder roll  is finished. It took me 5 hours to embelish with the Jewels and pearls. The Silk poofs are 4"  strips, sewn to make a channel for light stuffing, gathered in places, then tacked down with jewels and pearls. Hand sewn together, turned right side out, stuffed, then closed.

My fingers ache. Tomorrow I will  finish the other one.

This inded is turning out to be my most ambitious project yet.
