I had a long discussion with a sewing machine selling guy I know...  He and Alan agree that what I REALLY need is one of these!

Honey if you want that sort of Embroidery Machine (and remember? The Program will cost you more)
Check out this one:

I plan on making one of these purchases in the next few years meet the MB-4 for Janome:

Here is the information regarding it!

Yes this little baby will be part of my home, once I can afford it and it's program, a few more years, as I just upgraded the Husqvarna to the Diamond last year, and I need to upgrade my car this year!

It'll be quicker, and a better use of resources, to pay for the designs to be digitized rather than doing it myself.  Then I can just load it and start it, and let it work while I get on with making something up.  The price includes everything I need to set it up for the business.

Kate, I think it's a terrific investment, and I can't wait to see what you make with it! (Will you do overseas orders? ;))

Cilean, the embroidery is spectacular; what is it going on?!

I've priced hobbyist embroidery machines, and can afford one--but what I know I don't have is the TIME to learn how to use it and do it properly! I'm afraid it would simply gather dust. Alas! I admire those of you who manage to make the time to do it!

Oh yes overseas orders please *wink wink*

That would be a winning the lotto kind of splurge. For some reason my son likes having cloths that fit lol

I have two corsets done using the SIMPLICITY Pattern that gem made hers from. Good pattern!

I am in the process of getting the Elizabeth Bathory gown cut out for Tygerkat. I have a low necked chemise cut out and the Underskirt. A mockup of the bodice will be sent to her with the finished corset. Pictures coming as I progress.

It's a nice one, isn't it? I used it for the bodice of the purple kirtle and liked it even more!  Can we see the corsets? Alisoun used that pattern, too.

Yes, we'll be doing overseas orders, once we get set up...  Probably next year now.

This will be part of what I spend on the legacy from Mum dying at Christmas.  Much of the rest will go on the house.  We await the sale of her flat.  My bro is overseeing some pre-sale work, such as a bit of restoration and repair after the roof leak and the windows being replaced.  It's mostly cosmetic, will cost a couple of thousand, and will ensure a faster sale at a higher price.  It's in an area much sought-after by airline crew and other professionals, close to but not under the approaches to Stanstead Airport.

Im sorry that you lost your mom. *hugs*

Thank you.  She was only 82, but more severely ill than we knew.  We knew it was coming, just not this soon.  Not really ready to let her go.  But she went anyway, and we are coping.  She went to sleep in her favourite chair one evening after supper, and just failed to wake up.  A final display of her characteristic no-nonsense efficiency!  I lost a great friend, and one of my best advocates.  I am determined to make my share of the estate (one quarter: no arguments!   We are incredibly good at not arguing about stuff like this, and my bro provided us with a break-down of all his expenses in dealing with it so far just to prove he'd done as his Big Sisters told him and claimed for things properly!  ;D As in petrol, death certificate, probate costs, as well as the funeral and stuff like that) work for me and the embroidery machine will be doing that..  My new sewing partner and I have great plans for it.  Take a look at our new website: http://www.jollydicey.co.uk/Home

gem, the corsets have to go to the Shoe repair first for grommetting. I was to take them over on Thursday, but my husband ended up at the ER fo Chest Pains very early in the am.

He's okay. Mild Angina. After tests, he was let go  and is feeling fine. At 66 and having had a Triple Bypass 20 years ago, Chest Pain of any kind warrants a trip to the ER. This was the first time in 20 years.

Cilean! The Embroidery is lovely. I am envious!

What type of machine is that? I have been lusting over one I want by Janome, the Memory Craft 11000! A computer that sews, but sells for $5 grand on Sale.

((Hugs to Kate.)) I wasn't aware you'd lost your mum, either.

And Lady K, that sounds scary! Hope he's feeling better.

Lady K, you have been talking about that Janome Memory Craft for as long as I've known you. I think you should go for it. It would be so useful in your business! How long would it take you to recoup the purchase price? Can you find a good one used?

Whooo!  Scary!  Himself's papa had a triple bypass about 10 years ago, and is doing well for someone of 92!  My own father died at 53.  Scottish heart disease - and hereditary rather than diet.  Hope your hubby goes for another 20 years before the next scare!

And if you want is for business use, take a look at the commercial machines like that Brother and the Janome Cilean mentioned.  They really are MUCH better than any domestic machine for the type of large scale and greater quantity stuff we tend to do.  They are much faster, MUCH easier to set up for multiple colours (up to 10 at once, rather than having to stop, reposition, and rethread for each separate colour!), and less prone to breaking down.  The stitch quality is better too, I'm told.  I shall be giving them a beady-eyed look before making a final decision.

Good gentles all, we have achieved kirtle!

Today I attached the rest of the skirt to the bodice and it officially became a dress!  I am delighted with how the pleats look, but I need to redo the seam where it's flat in front (for the third time!). You can see it better in this picture, where it sort of puffs up strangely, telling me that I need to bring it up about half an inch or so. Ack! Wish me luck!
