Lady Kathleen, that diamond fabric has been sitting in my fabric stash for years, screaming "Use me! Embellish me!" every time I looked its way. After 50 hours of beading, it's finally shut up.

Crimson, I can't wait either. I've come to a standstill after issues with the silk buttons I made. We finally broke down and ordered steel shank buttons. I've made her some sleeves and now I'm working on a hat while I wait for the buttons to get here. Sheesh, it's been a day already!

The pearling is done on the Indoor Forepart and sleeves. Both set of sleeves hemmed and lined. Now on to the overskirt after I get some Alterations done. The pearling on the sleeves and forepart took 40 hours.

The Overskirt is almost finished. I am going to let it hang for a few days before I finish the hemming. Then on to the hat, Chemise, and other finishing I need to do.

Wow. I'm not sure any other statement I could make would better convey what I think when I look at that dress. Amazing.

Lady Kathleen - the gown is dazzling.  I wish I could admire it in person.  8)

I have to make a dark red or brown gown now.  That is so luxurious looking!
I'm still looking for velveteen in oxblood or a dark red.
Where did you get the fabric for the forepart? I need something with a pattern .

Thank you so much iain, irma, and Rowan

AS for the main fabric, I bought that at Hancock Fabrics back in January. It is hard to find a Blood Red Velveteen. I am sure Hancock's online or eBay may have some. I will check for you.

As for the Contrast fabric for the Forepart and sleeves, I bought at a Mill End here in Rochester that is now closed.

Thanks...Any sources will be carefully hoarded in my bookmarks.  I can't find the link you gave me for the 'frames' trim, if you could share, pretty please ^_^.

I DID find the velveteen, in the color I want (a deep burgundy) at Hobby Lobby; I'm waiting for it to go on sale, (they want $16.00 yd)  but I really, really want it.  I expect I will give in before long *sigh*.
It's 100% cotton and light weight.

The major fabric retail stores only seem to stock Red, Green, black and sometimes white.  I have seen the occasional purple (think Barney purple) and the rare shell pink.  Hancock used to stock twice as many colors as anyone else, but not anymore.
I don't want crimson red because it is too....Christmas-y,  Same reason why I don't like true green.  Makes me feel compelled to trim it all in white Faux fur.

I have been able to find the correct color online, using a source I got  from Lady Rosalind;  but I wanted to wait until I was ready to start the project, OR there is a sale I can't pass up.
Right now the internet sites want the same price as retail + I have to pay shipping.

The trim I used for my gown is called FRAMES from www.pillagedvillage.com The gold on black only comes in the
1 1/4" wide. I had enough 1 1/2"wide left and what I recycled from my Red gown ensemble.  FRAMES is my favorite trim.

Thank you!
I saw the trim in person when I saw the outfit you made for Lord Fredrick last year at DMRF.  It's simple, but so versatile, since it suggests  any number of embellishments.

Cofeeguru

Lady K,  may I come sit at your feet and absorb your sewing knowledge? Holy cow!

Thank you for the compliment, Cofeeguru.

I made the Elizabethan Tall hat today to go with the gown. I did a knife pleated crown top this time, recycled some trim as a hatband, as well as the ostrich drab plumes from a hat I made for my husband years ago that is now retired.

(sigh)  Soooo lovely, as is all of the incredible work on your gold and red gown, LadyK!  The pearling and beading is simply exquisite, and I can hardly wait to see photos of you wearing it!  I truly adore the hat, as well!  One of these days I think I am going to have to try my hand at a full size chapeau, I do believe.  You inspire me!  As do all of you wonderfully talented folk!

I decided to replace my existing caul worn under my German-style hat with a goldhaube, based on Genoveva's pattern on germanrenaissance.net.  It is not as ambitious as her beautiful work with all the pearls, but the shape seems to be more appropriate.
