I made this one, too.. the short version.  With grommets..

LadySeasan

oh wow, awesome!
my husband wants the short version, without the trim on it.

This one is a large size, and it's for sale ($40). I think your husband, from his pics, is thinner than this size!.  It's cotton corduroy lined with linen....let me know if you want me to take exact measurements, I believe I used the Size 44 cutting lines when I made it!!

LadySeasan

my husband typically fits an xl, and thats the pattern i used for his silver doublet-but he does have the "old man gut" as i call it, so i have to add extra inches to cover his mid section

Since I don't have the pattern to simplicity 4059 (the doublet pattern that is previously discussed) can someone please tell me what the heck am I supposed to do with the pants yoke??? i have no idea-it says cut 4 of fabric, but then what?  i think i have an idea. just want to make sure ive been searching online for the pattern instructions but to no avail

I made view B (shorter) out of linen with grommets as a quick ensemble for the hubby.  Since the pattern was too big and the fabric was so light, the lacing pulled the doublet front all over the place throughout the day.  I would go with buttons.

LadySeasan, if you still need the instructions, let me know.

I made this one, too! Very easy to work with. I combined the patterns and gave it a tabbed peplum.

That's it in the middle, sorry I don't have a better pic of it right now. BTW, used wooden toggles and loops on the doublet, and it held its shape all day. My brother loves it!

i am having the damndest time with this pattern for the pants. apparently i suck at this, and for some reason cannot understand what the pattern is saying, where to sew, etc. so i decided to wing it, but i still get stuck on the inside front center seams...blah

What pattern are you using? I find that lining up the front and back then the center works pretty good for me with the simple patterns that i use..

lotsa luck!

Since I finished a bunch of Alterations today.  I cut out and am more than half way finished with an Arched Tall Hat in black velveteen for my husband to wear this weekend with his Noble garb.

I have made that long doublet as well.  It is a great pattern.  I have not tried the pants though.  I just use a basic pj pants and instead of elastic put in a draw string.  Lady Seasan I can scan and email pics of the instructions if you still need them.  Although that would have to happen a lil later today.

I do agree that the buttons are better.  But watch out depending on your build, you might not have your buttons in a straight line you might have to vary them a lil down the front.  Best of luck.

Very nice and striking combo.  I would use the saffron as lining or in places that it is seen and a white or cream shirt.    Buttons is my vote.

Really?  The saffron for the lining?  Hmmmm Hadn't thought of that.  I thought making it into the shirt and having it show at neck and through the sleeves would be a good look.

I have decided to go with buttons. I think the grommets would make it  more lower class than buttons and I am trying for a more middle class look. I don't think I will do trim with this one.

Thank you everyone that posted the doublets. Very nice and very helpful.

So, what hood do you think I should add. The one I made before had the pointy ended hood, which isn't the one assigned to the capelet pattern. I like the pointy hood, but think it might be too busy. What do you think?

Is it possible for you to do a top layer of the capelet that, when pulled up, would be long enough to cover your head? In that case, you could put a few buttons/loops on the bottom of where the front comes together, and close it under your chin. It's something I've thought about doing before - that way it just looks like a layer to capelet when it's not in use.
