I vote buttons! It just needs a little *something* on the bodice. :)

Kate!!

Lovely 1860's dress!!  How about Covered buttons in the blue that is on the dress and a detachable Peter Pan collar with lace? Then some lace for the ends of the sleeves. That would be period or damn close!!

I have this dress pattern from Laughing Moon Merchantile. I have made it several times and it is a great pattern. There's even one for Pagoda Sleeves and a Peter Pan collar.

Hope this helps.

She has opted for:

Small stand collar with some blue ribbon trim and a white 'pie frill' of lace above that.
Ribbon and lace at the cuffs.
Ribbon trim at the waist.
Hook closure.  On such busy fabric, buttons would get lost, so don't bother, we thought.

Hem length to be fixed next time when she remembers her boots!

I started working on this doublet for my husband today, and I would say that for four hours of work, I did a pretty decent job. I used Simplicity pattern 4059-as some of you may know, patterns give me headaches, and I altered it a bit. For one I added the silver chest panels instead of keeping it with the brocade.

It's not completely done yet.  I still need to add the flange pieces for the shoulders, and the peplum tabs at the bottom. But I sent some pictures of it to my husband and he loves it.  He had no idea I was making it.

All he has to do now is go and find a site where he can get some awesome clasps to close it up (any suggestions)

That's a nice pattern to work with, isn't it? I used it for Milord's shirt last fall, and several KCRF cast members wear the doublet.

That it is. I made my brother's doublet from that pattern and it was super easy to modify. :D

I liked it so much that I'm actually co-opting the sleeves from the shirt pattern for an Elizabethan smock! (Luckily, the pattern comes in XS!) I prefer the modern curved sleeve pattern to the period gusseted thing I've been fiddling with.

I get these clasps from www.pillagedvillage.com Theya re called Romance Clasps from JHB. They can also be found at most JoAnn stores in Gold and Silver. I order them by the Gross because I go through so many for Doublets, Venetians, Slops, etc.

Hope this help, Lady Season

Those clasps are perfect! thanks!

and Gem, yes I love this pattern. I used it last year to make the Option A outfit for a friend. I still have another doublet to make for my husband, and then a doublet for a friend :) so this pattern is definitely getting a workout.

That's going to be a stunning combination.

While Lady De Laney's Kirtle and Bodice for the Tudor overgown are at the Shoe Repair getting grommetted, I have cut out the paned slops for Toki Bloodaxe. My other Apprentice has the panes that she will pearl the trim. His two shirts are close to being finished. I have yet to cut out the Doublet he designed. Which is very unique in adn of itself.

This weekend, I will be working on Lady De Laney's Gabled Hood, which will be done all by hand. Photos ensue as I finish each piece.

Huzzah! Those are gorgeous! I love hand-sewing, but I don't think I'd want to do a corset.
