I know it has been said before, but there is so much talent within this forum! You guys have been such an inspiration to me. I would like to post some of my projects, but my progress has been very slow since I went back to work. I gotta get faire money somewhere. lol.

Hello all!!!
I am starting my first sewing project ever!!!
First is the shirt from this pattern, these are the pics of the patterns cut out, and the fabric, I decided to use a Royal Blue Poly/Cotton broadcloth, might be a little hot, but I am making this one for Texas Renaissance Festival in October.
I am going to make a long doublet and breeches from Simplicity #4059, I decided not to use that shirt, cause Lace makes me feel funny.

I will post pics of the fabric for the doublet, as soon as I find out what I want, I better decide soon cause Joann Fabrics is having a half price sale this week, 8)
Here are the buttons I chose for the shirt and doublet.

This is going to be a fun project and a fun way to learn.  Keep us posted and yell any time you get stuck or puzzled by something.

Tripletap, I've used both those patterns, and they're both nice. I'm posting a picture of the shirt I made for Milord from Simplicity 4059 (you can see: no lace!).

That looks good Gem, I am using the shirt from the Butterick pattern #5656 because I like the stand-up collar, my next shirt will prolly be the same one you made, with the addition of eyelets and a lace-up because I do not have a huge hairy chest to show-off lol.

I have that very same Butereick pattern to use as a base to draft Boy's Doublets to look like the Men's.

Tripletap,
I too have the pattern 4059 and am going to make both doublets, shirts (one with ruff and one with out) and breeches as well.
I need to get my arse in gear

I have also made this shirt from Butterick B4486 with collar no ruff.

Here I am in the buttrick one, in black.

I have made the doublet and shirt, on the right side, of Simplicity 4059.  It was easy and went together quickly.  And I actually prefer to use that shirt pattern now when making shirts.  It was easy to do with or with out lace.

Good luck.  Hope to get a chance to see your completed work out at TRF
May the stars always shine upon you and yours.

Huzzah!!  Good gentles, I bring you:

Frankensmockup!

Or, a mockup of my "Franken-smock," pieced together from various patterns: the torso and skirting from Margo Anderson's high-necked smock, the collar and neckline from Margot's freebie partlet pattern, and the sleeves from Simplicity 4059. Why did I need a mockup for a smock? And what's that seam at the waist?

Well, you'll just have to wait and see!  But I am pretty darn excited to get this far (and have it *fit!*). Tomorrow I get to cut out the PRETTY fabric for this!

(I'm almost sorry that I marked all over this with Sharpie and used funky-colored thread. I had no idea I could make an entire smock in one day--including tracing the pattern and cutting out--and I'd have made this wearable had I known! Ha!)

Tripletap

That looks great Gem!!
So creative!

BTW, any suggestions on cutting the fabric with the patterns, should I pin the patterns to the fabric and cut, or should I use a fabric pencil and trace the patterns then cut?

Thanx yall!

CenturiesSewing

Glad to see you have conquered the smock Gem!  :D

Tripletap, skip pinning the pattern to the fabric and used pattern weights instead (tuna cans or cat food cans work great), that way if you need to rearrange the pieces you don't have to unpin everything. I'd trace the patterns, as tempting as it is to just cut, you get a more accurate piece by tracing it out.

Looking good!  And why not just finish it off and have a 'spare' one.  No-one is going to see that seam OR the different coloured threads once it is covered in the rest of the kit!
