"I'm partial to the plane that my hunny (Rune) flew in while in the Navy.  The Lockheed P-3 Orion.  Sub hunter or Sky Pig or Flying Target.

Many years ago my father was stationed in San Diego with the Pacific Fleet. I remember P-3's always flying over,  along with  A-6 Prowlers & S-3 Vikings.

Being a major history geek, especially WWII aviation, I really love the "cutting edge" aircraft of the 40's.  Ever hear of the Japanese Shinden?

Note the strong resemblance to the "modern" varieze...

I remember assembling a plastic model of the Shinden as a kid. By the way ND, you can expect to find a small package in your snail mail next week. Feel free to post....

O.K., so I am working in Boston this week and my rep says he has a surprise for me.  After 3 hours on a plane, I'm whooped!  He gives me an address for the GPS and off I go to meet him for dinner...at a small airport...with a grass strip...and a mint condition 1941 L4 "Grasshopper" (a military Cub).  Four tiny gauges and no radio!  She was painted desert tan with the big 'ol "Stars and Bars" painted on the side.  90 minutes of flying up and down the coast near Portsmith!  Me, not the instructor, ME!   Had to take off and land twice.  ;D ;D ;D

As Will Smith said in Independance day, "I have got to get me one of these"!

Oh, it was a beautiful night, If you are familiar with the Cub, we were "forced" to leave the window up and the door down.

Edit:  Found a pic of the field online.  You come in on the right (notice the "cut-out" in the trees).  It's a tad tight but not too bad...

Yup, that be the one. How soon was it before you broke off those spindly legs?

My favorite aircraft is the old reliable DC-8 I have ran around the world turning wrenches on these and loved every second .This is the most reliable freighter on the planet still in use by many cargo outfits. They can take a punch to one flew though 4 radio towers in Lima Peru lost 15 feet or the wing and landed like it was nothing.I still work part time on these.I wish I knew how to post photos AAARGH
