Just to turn up the steam a bit, here's a link for SteamPunk fashion on FLICKR:

Taffy, the copper pipe sounds like just the thing, although heavy, and costly with the price of copper these days, but beautiful!!!  I'm pretty excited about it all, to, and it's fun to share it all with everyone here, also!

Stephanie, I totally forgot to add earlier...  Firefly was my fav while it was on, and I've seen Serenity at least 7-8 times, and I watch it every time it comes on SciFi!  LOL  Capt. Mal is dreamy, in that rough-hewn-farmboy-turned-space-pirate-naughty-boy type way...  and Jayne is just hysterical!!!  He is, without doubt, my all time favorite Merc, EVAR!!!

He muzt haff zome Yagerkin in him somevere, 'cauz he vears de crezy hets, hyu knoz...    ;D

BW, I found that link the other day and shared it with a friend (but forgot to post it here...oops) and we've been coming up with new ideas ever since!!!  Too many to even use, but I have a feeling there are a few of us here that are about to branch out into the whole SP genre in a BIG way...  LOL

Those people are all incredibly creative!!!

Rani, the gun sounds freakin' awesome. I can't wait to see what all comes together.

It's just a simple acrylic base 3-D paint I found at JoAnns, Grov. I'm going to Spray Paint over it and then probably seal it, I'm hoping that it doesn't end up peeling on me, but who knows, right?

Grov

Ran across some crafty guys at the game shop tonight and they mentioned online guides on modifying nerf weapons.  Dis-assembly, sanding, priming, and painting.  They also mentioned a rub on "polish" found in some hardware store that replicates copper finish.

Grov, this is the Nerf Maverick I modded earlier this year. I posted a pic on the 1st page of this thread, but here tiz again:

I sanded some of the lettering off, took it apart and did the Russian Roulette mod and then while it was still in pieces base painted it w/Krylon Fusion for Plastic - black.  Then I got the flu and wished for the sweet mercy of death for almost a week.  After another week of recovery I went back to it and painted the details w/cheapo metallic acrylic paint - the kind that's $1.99 for 4 oz - from Michael's, and then attempted to put it back together.  I ended up throwing away a spring and needless to say, it doesn't function like it did before.  It then got a couple of layers of clear coat.

It also doesn't shoot anymore because of paint in the barrels.  If I was to do this again and wanted to have the shooting function, I would use a plastic dye from an automotive shop to color the inside of the barrels only as you'd still have to base coat the gun in order to paint the details.  EDIT:  There is a light on top of the gun which comes separately.  I painted over the lens like an idiot, scratched it off w/a fingernail & lightly sanded the lens to get it clean.  It left the lens foggy & the light looks really really cool.

One more EDIT:  Thanks for the heads up on the copper polish product. I'll be looking for it.

Ah Ha ... Great Minds Think Alike!   ;)

I was going to say that I saw the Nerf Maverick Pistol at Fry's here in Houston this morning, and thought it would work well for someone's Steam Punk Retro-Futuristic Weapon.  It's US$9 at Fry's right now.

Take Care,

After cruising the garage sales all morning and only finding a single over/under shotgun, I swung by Wally world and have to admit that the Maverick is simply too cool to pass on.  Here they are as a before shot:

And this is where they live:

Yes, they fit well in both pouches.  That image is with them half drawn.  Now I need to get to sanding and painting.  No neon in Steampunk...

At the risk of seeing a ton of them out there, I will share.  Harbor Freight Oil tanned leather pouch, double rolled at the top of pockets with single and double stitching with rivets.  12 pocket tool bag.   Just under 30 bucks.  Pouches do Not slide.  Think I'd rather have them on the sides but I don't have any problems with where they sit on my back.  Means the pistols aren't going to be bumping into my arms while I walk.  They also have a single pouch of similar make but the Maverick didn't fit and smoothly into it.  Passed on the single because I feared for the future paint job.

For my cane:  I picked up copper pipe, a brass 3 way plumbing connector for the handle w/a SHARK embossed on it (SQUEEE!), and now the fun part - I've got two open ends on the handle.  So I could put a spigot & faucet on the ends or maybe fit it w/a light.  I see another trip to the hardware store!  I'm also going to wrap it w/wire to steam it up a bit more.  The best part?  I can use this on a regular basis!

That's awesome Taffy!

I'm totally digging the pouches, Grov. I have a big leather bag a friend of mine offered to me that I think will work for my larger gun. On rare occasion do I think that I will take both guns on an outing but we'll see. If I get the urge, I'll find a strap for the shot gun so that it can go across my back.

Still playing with ideas on what I want to do for pants...whether to find some large brown cargo pants or try and have the striped pants  made. We'll see what comes about, I need to get fabric for the shirt and then I'll be dropping off the materials at my friend/seamstress who is making my underbust corset.

Am thinking about making/getting some dreads since I don't know if I'm going to get a hat. Wear the dreads with my goggles and then part of my hair down and it'd look really cute, I think.

Elle, how about some bustle bloomers - regular bloomers w/several rows of ruffles across the popo.  They'd be really cute in pinstripe.
