Hey,
I've got to make some vacuform shin and arm guards for a customers outfit. I've got a friend that got board over mamorial day weekend and built one in his garage. (Nothing greater and more terrifying than a theater tech geek being board  ;D)  I'm just not sure how to go about actually making the mold and other such.  Can you point me to a particular site? Thanks :)
It is kind of strange watching your personal history become costume.

I'd recommend getting in contact with someone from here: http://www.501st.com/

I know nothing about vacuforming, but I know those guys do a lot of it.

If no one jumps to help you, I could get you in contact with my brother...he's a member of the 501st...TK8382 to be specific :) He works alot right now tho so I'm not sure about how quickly he could help you...
Things are shaping up to be...
Pretty. Odd.

I have completed my first steampunk outfit! My bodice had little card suites, hearts, clubs, spades, you know, so when I found this poker belt buckle at a thrift store I had to jump on it. I painted a black light up gun and added a gauge to it too. I also made my cuffs, pouch and goggles. I wore this to a con recently and it was so much fun! People would come up and be like "I love steampunk too!" and it was so nice to talk to people about it, as not many of my friends are in to it. I must say, I got a lot of my inspiration from this very thread, so thanks guys!

It occurred to me that some of the ANIMUSIC computer animated music machines are truly Steampunk in design. Check out link:

In addition to all the anime cosplay at A-Kon this last weekend, there was an amazing amount of steampunk/neo-Victorian.  I'll get it online asap, but am currently interweb-less at home.

I think Animusic is some really awesome programming. You'd be amazed at some of the stories that have gone around about Animusic. I got an email from a friend and he was going on and on about how many takes it took for the balls to hit all of the drums, and that all the parts were from John Deere tractors (I think it was the video called Pipe Dream).... Oy!  I really wish folks would check their stories before they inundate my email box!

What ... don't you like the out-takes from animated movies?   ;)   ;D

There are some lovely steam punk elements in the new American McGee's Alice game.  And Alice's costumes? - absolutely swoon-worthy.

Actually, David, I do enjoy those! I think it's hilarious that the studios would even take the time to write and produce those, considering the amount of work involved.

This I love.  It showed up on Saturday and I wore it to my mom's birthday party with my black victorian blouse and bustle skirt.

Nice accessories, arbcoind.  Very pretty.  I was delighted to see Hawaii as the origins of the first piece.  Bet it's hard to find materials there.  :D

I've been so busy crafting lately.  Just wanted to share some new hats we've been having a blast working on.  No SP outfit should be complete without a hat or some type of hear adornment, right?  :) (If you click the pics, it will take you to the blog post about them.)

- Reworked mom a felt hat for her new sheriff/gambler outfit:

- My recycled cardboard hat loosely inspired by Joanie Stubb's grey hat in the HBO series "Deadwood":

- And for all the airship pirates, our reworked felt "pork pie" tricorne with "cockade" my daughter has claimed:

I'm currently working on some Victorian-style hat pins.  These are made using wire hangers (and are 8-10" long!):

Wearing hat pins still scares me, but I'm getting used to it.  They would make very handy (and lethal) defensive weapons.  ;)
