beautiful hats, and gorgeous pins, also!!!  Wonderful work!  I'm very curious about the cardboard hat... any close-ups of it, by any chance?

Edit:
Woops... didn't realize the photos were links!  Never mind... (church lady voice)  ;D

Thanks, Rani!  The cardboard hat was made with cereal boxes.  And, yes, there are loads of pics on my blog.  ;)  I finished it just in time to wear it to Scarby Memorial weekend.  The 4ft long tails of the hat scarf were flying like banners in the breeze. :D  Had to tuck them into my belt.  I'm hoping my man will eventually make a hat like this one out of leather.  He wore a red one he'd been working on.  He wants to make a different hatband before I post about it.

Which came first?  Dork, I think, then nerd.  Is there a difference?

Coming in late but I always refer to myself as a dork. I say a dork is a nerd who is aware of their nerdiness. As I am FULLY aware I consider myself a dork.

What did the original of that one look like?  Was it a squirt gun?

My 10YO daughter has become enamored of Steampunk. She has decided she wants to be a Steampunk artist. We've been brainstorming but I'd love other ideas. We were thinking some knickers pants with a skirt over them & tucked up so you see the pants underneath. A loose, flowey shirt & maybe a vest. She already has goggles & we'll be brainstorming some punk-ish artist goodies.

Any thoughts appreciated. She's very excited about this new garb.

Yep, transparent green squirt gun from the Wallmart dollar closeout rack. No 'mods' other than sanding the rough edges and logos off and some paint. I did it for one of the girltourage for her SP outfit.

Here's some of my rayguns; all, except for the Starfleet phaser on bottom right, are kit-bashed or slightly modded and repainted water guns.

One good tip I'll pass along is that before I close up the fill hole I'll pump some caulk or builder's adhesive in there to add a little heft to the piece.

I never go to the Sci-Fi cons with out a few rayguns! If nothing else, they're fun at parties!

Here is my first try at a gun and goggles. Wore them and my costume for the first time at ComicPalooza

I am huge fan of the movie "Repo the Gentic Opera" and if you have seen it you will see the connection.
Started out as a 1.00 water gun. I used plastic spray paint to cover it and then used acrylic and powdered pigments to achieve the color, added bits and bobs and have myself a gun :) I also sanded off the logos and other stuff.

Great gun!  Love the color work - well executed!
