New York City Apartment Sails Back in Time
http://realestate.yahoo.com/promo/new-york-city-apartment-sails-back-in-time.html

Have you ever wanted to live inside the retro-futuristic world of a Jules Verne novel? Do you prefer submarine portholes to skyline views? Then say hello to your dream home.
...
Transforming a plain-vanilla co-op into a Jules Verne wonderland took about two years. 'Like other large projects, the initial budget and scope were quite modest compared to the beast it would eventually become,' he said. The 1,800-square-foot space is configured as an open loft with one bedroom and two full baths, which are hidden behind walls of antique piping, gears and cogs.

Mr. Noritz, a filmmaker, said photos of zeppelins informed the design, as did steampunk style, which is inspired by science-fiction and fanciful interpretations of Victorian-era technology. 'I wanted to build a unique experience for visitors and myself,' he said.

Why be mundane when you can be a Rennie?!

Wow! We just got back from WorldCom, a Sci Fi convention held in Reno. We got to wear our Steampunk wear and met our favorite Steampunk author, Gail Carriger. What fun! We saw other Steampunks, picked up a few new books, and even got to kiss a drag queen! (got a ribbon to put on our badges for that) My daughter wore her hat with a modified band which holds all sorts of vials and tools that a true scientist would need. It was a hit with other punks, and one writer, who said he wanted to use it in his new book. Hmmm. I showed off my punked out parasol, which started life as an umbrella. If I can get her to help me, I'll post pics of her hat. (I am helpless at photos) ;)

I just finished my steampunk corset. It's the first Steampunk thing I've done!

Lady Toadflinger, I am green with jealousy over your WorldCon adventure!  Sounds like tooooo much fun.  I'm planning to attend WC in 2013 when it's held up the road in San Antonio.

Lady, Rebecca - hominahominahomina! That is one beautiful corset!

Somewhat OT, but the control room has been looking decidedly SP-ish of late, Mayfaire Moon's TARDIS corset:  http://blog.craftzine.com/archive/2011/08/tardis_corset.html

I.Want.So.Bad.  Only about $900.  *sitsincorner&whimpers*

Nope, I'm not that talented (or patient). I started making it in a class at Costume College, and before we got there, the teacher had us choose one of 4 embroidery designs. Then she did it on her machine, and it was all ready for us when we got there. I wish I had an embroidery machine!

But thank you!

I don't know if this has been posted, but Bristol Ren Faire has declared an official SP invasion weekend and are "pulling out all the stops":  http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=200320356683905

If you go, pics, please!  And are you listening, TRF management?

I saw this on a t-shirt for sale at worldcon: Steampunk means never having to say"is this period?" Ha!
One other thing I forgot to mention, we visited a Reno Ben Franklin Crafts store and found some great black mini top hats to decorate as fascinators.  The price....$3.59!  They are fairly light weight, but sturdy enough to be covered with fabric and dressed up.(also got a tiny one for my daughter's Boston Terrier. As she said, he already has his tux on! :D)
