Why be mundane when you can be a Rennie?!

I like looking for fun ideas and you guys have gotten me in the mood for some steampunk and check out what I found. This is beyond cool! I wanna try it

That looks like lots of fun!  I saw a cloak made from ties earlier this year at our Faire!  If I could get enough ties in the exact colors I want, I think I'd make one...

Steampunk sighting: My daughter and I were on a thrift store crawl today in Sacramento, and saw an unusual sight.  Down the road went a young man on his motorized cycle (like a very early motorcycle). He wore a leather flying helmet, knickers and braces, and, of course, airship goggles! We regretted the fact that we were driving in fairly heavy traffic, so were unable to snap a pic with a cell phone. Wonder where he was headed....(the airstrip for a dirigible flight?) ;)

Wonderful steam punked Victorian clothing exhibit in Houston:  http://sites.hccs.edu/mediaroom/?p=2727

I spent a couple of hours there earlier today with the 42nd Airship Batallion, many of us in full regalia.  One man had a zoetrope projecting in his top hat.

I merchant at Renfaires, and I love seeing the Steampunkers.  It's a breath of fresh creative energy.  I just returned from Bristol, where the people watching is prime during business lulls.  I especially enjoy seeing people who are just starting out on their garb, whichever century.  I remember my first attempts with a grin and a cringe.  So, it's with fondness that I sometimes just gotta laugh out loud at the crazy outfits.  I LOVE their bravado, and admire their courage to wear some of the things I see.
Freshman Steampunkers wear even more outlandish garb than Freshman Rennies.  WWII army gear, Renaissance clothes, giant boots, cardboard accoutrements, Halloween costumery, all combined with a fine piece of expensive headwear.  I'm glad that the genre is being embraced by the Renfaires.  Bristol RF had a Steampunk day during their 9 week run.  Now, I just wanna see an airship land at the faire!

Daggrim, I know what you mean by "a grin and a cringe."  Some of my earlier stuff has truly been cringeworthy.  I'm also a people watcher at TRF.  I buy a drink & a nosh, maybe window shop a little, and just enjoy the parade of humanity.  All I know is I WANT a zoetrope - maybe built into a bustle?  Lord knows there's certainly enough real estate back there.

Here are some pics that others have posted - these pics cover just about everything I took pics of:  http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1579934634

Is anyone planning on wearing steampunk to TRF this year, particularly on All Hallows' Eve?

There are many going Pirate Weekend in Steampunk.  I know we may plan to.  So, along with the regular pirates, we may see some airship pirates, too.  We may also be SP again on All Hallow's

The 42nd Airship Battalion is planning an invasion on 10/22.  I may or may not make it as my BFF is visiting next month.

I'm still not sure what I'll be wearing... or if we'll even still be able to make it down there this year, or not.

The Family Hyde will be there in Steampunk.  Steampunk mod'ing is the one thing in this crazy world that I find relaxing.
