Ya, I've not 100% got a character or theme yet which is why I'm wanting movie suggestions.  But I do love the goggles and I think I"m an aviator at heart, so my character would definitely have goggles no matter what!

Taffy, like I said, I am no 100% sure it will be all together by halloween weekend, so I'll let you know about the badge on here once I have it all together.

Rani, loved all those goggle options, thanks so much.  If those girlie ones were a different color, they'd be perfect, but blue isn't me...  I'm more of a pink/red/gold kind of gal...

You might check with the Etsy store owner to see if you could get them in your colors, or just paint a pair yourself!

I found a site that had these really cool short bustle skirts in like taffeta material,  but I forgot to bookmark it, and now I can't find it. I've cruised all over the Internet and can't find the darn site.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm thinking it may be this:  http://www.lovechildboudoir.com/ -- they also have an Etsy store.

The lovechildboudoir is close. The site I had come across had the bustle pin-tucked in the back and could tie on I believe.

Go to a hardware store and ask for goggles.  They should have the ones you want.  They only cost about $10.  Get copper paint and/or black paint and fix them up.  Super cheap and very cool looking.

AnimeFest should be a big deal, I know I'm planning to be out there with at least if not a few friends in tow.
Will you be there, Sir Richard?

Yea will be running BattleTech for the con been doing it since the first in fact been running BattleTech at conventions in Dallas since 1989 twenty years now.  Have to work one 5 hour slot a day and then have the rest of the day free to enjoy the con.  Stop by the gaming table and say hello.

If you can make Animefest they normally have some good vendors that carry goggles in many colors and options they are very popular in Japan.

Where is Animefest?

How much is it?

What do you do at it?  I've never been to a Con or a Fest like this.

While I'd love to go and get stuff for Steaming, I shudder at the thought of an entire Anime fest.   Skin crawls.  My second roommate in college was a rabid anime fan, and it and some of the 'toons on TV turned me off for LIFE.  I have to run the other way.   Ew.  Sorry, must go be ill now.

I don't go for the anime, AT ALL. I was turned off by anime a long time ago. But I go to spend time with friends and show off our Steaminess. I'm probably only going for a day, it really depends on how money is then and on work also.

Reunion tower in Dallas I work gaming BattleTech to be specific while the game isn't anime based much of the art was based off several different anime series.  Anime is pretty board ranging from hardcore hentai to silly small kids stuff. I'm not much of a fan of the new stuff but really enjoyed the serious science fiction and fantasy series like Record of the lodus war, Area 88, Grey my wife likes the comedy action series like Lupin III and Tank Police.  Was never into the hentai myself but know some that are. I've always been a fan of the Japanese monster movies like Godzilla and martial arts movie.  Now I also enjoy Japanese horror and comedy.

The con is more than just anime though that's its core it also Japanese pop culture like Ninja war, Iron chief, Japanese pop music they always have visiting bands from Japan, there are panels on art, and voice acting, custom making, cosplay the last few years they have focus more on the younger crowds which is a bit disappointing to me but I understand that is were the money is.

You will see Steampunkers at conventions, anime or other. I'm constantly seeing entries on the Steam Fashion LJ of Steampunk gatherings at anime or sci-fi conventions. I haven't been to a convention yet, but I'd like to some day.

By the way, not all anime is weird. I'm not a rabid anime fan, but I like some of it. Films by Studio Ghibli are beautiful and older ones like the ones SirRichardBear mentioned are good, even some of the newer ones like Cowboy Bebop or Ghost in the Shell are really fun and well written. Also, if you want to get technical, The Last Unicorn is an anime, given it was done by a Japanese animation company. It's not all alien tentacles.  ;)

So, be brave and tread into convention waters, if you wish to get some steampunk gear. From what I hear, the people at conventions aren't all that different from Rennies or Steampunkers.

Yes, really!!!  They were a small invasion force, but a force, nonetheless!  There are a few more of us than that, and we'll have a ball at TRF on All Hallow's Eve!
