Oh Taffy!  My neighbor will be coming with me (she has yet to register here on the forum, but I'm working on her...) and she would like to have a badge, also, if that's possible?  I promise I'll get her registered here, and make her actually post something one day soon!

I saw that kilt, Capt. Marga, and it's pretty hot!  I suggested it to a certain kilted lad I know, and if he were able to make it down there for All Hallows that's what he's wear... even if I had to make it myself!  It looks pretty easy to mod a utilikilt with the gear cut-outs...

You must be referring to these...

VENI, VIDI, VELCRO! Spelling and grammatical errors are beyond my control, it's the way I'm wired.

Rani Zemirah

That's the one... but at about $385, it's just a little steep!!!  Looks easy to mod, though

Rani, your neighbor is added.

I can hardly wait to see what everyone comes up with.  Would anyone be up for a group lunch or summat like that?

Oh yeah... put me down for that!!!  I would totally love to do "on-a-stick" with all of you!  Or wine tasting, or maybe even just a pub crawl!  LOL  Oh, well, maybe not, since not all of us can drink legally, and I don't to do anything that would leave my fav shutterbug out!!!

OMG!!!  I get to go see HALESTORM tonight, and I just saw the cover of their new CD, and they're all done up like SteamPunk clanks!!!  Totally rockin', and their song "I Get Off" is tre provocateur!!!  Yum!!!

That photo of the kilt decorated with gears and cogs reminded me of this tutorial I found on the Brass Goggles blog. Here's the link for anyone who wants to wear a similar kilt, but doesn't want to necessarily pay that steep price.

I found a site that had these really cool short bustle skirts in like taffeta material,  but I forgot to bookmark it, and now I can't find it. I've cruised all over the Internet and can't find the darn site.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm thinking it may be this:  http://www.lovechildboudoir.com/ -- they also have an Etsy store.

AnimeFest is coming up Labor Day weekend should be a lot of steampunk there if A-Kon was any example.

OK, so I'm still going to try to get together a steam punk outfit for TRF, but I need more ideas on costumes.  I honestly think I probably have a good portion of stuff that would work in some sense and I imagine I could make a good portion of the other needed stuff....  However, if ya'll maybe could help me with two things.

First, some recommended movies/tv that have this style in it would be helpful.

Also, where can I find a pair of those awesome goggles everyone wears for under 100$?  I want a cool pair, but not for 100$, maybe half that would be fine....

Lady E, a quick search of Etsy turned up this set that you might be interested in...

Or these...

Or even these...

They are all easily customizable, and very much more affordable than some of the higher end sites, or if you'd like to start from scratch you can look here at the Gentleman's Emporium.  This is where I got mine, and at the risk of seeing them everywhere, I'll say this is the most reasonable I've found a pair of the very basic beginners model of aviators goggles.  They have black paint on them that is easily removed, and they are actually vintage military surplus, so you just won't find a better base to start with, if you want to design your own.

As for movies, try The Golden Compass for some basic period fashion ideas, as well as Wild, Wild West (the original series more so than the late movie, although it will work also), Serenity for the whole "cobbled together any way that works, fly by the seat of your pants" attitude, Warehouse 13 for cool gizmo and gadget ideas... and I'm sure everyone else can fill in all the others that are escaping me at the moment!

I'm so excited that you've decided to join us!!!  Have fun with this new garbing obsession!!!  LOL

(edit)  OMG!!!  I just found these, and I had to show them to you, Lady E!!!  I think they're absolutely perfect for you!!!  :)

I'm thinkin' I could have a lucrative career here...

... as an enabler!  ROFL

That search took all of 4.5 minutes!!!  It took longer to type and link it...  ::)

TV:  New show - Warehouse 13 has some really neat doodads

Movies:  League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, air pirates in Stardust, Bram Stoker's Dracula, the Adventures of Baron Munchausen, Around the World in 80 days, Wild, Wild West (both tv show & movie), Hellboy(s), Howl's Moving Castle, Sleepy Hollow

Goggles:  eBay, Etsy, Girl Genius store.  Would your character wear goggles?  I put a hell of a lot of work into mine, am still only "meh" with them, and then decided my character would NOT wear goggles.

Does this mean I can make a badge for you, Lady E?  *giggling like a mad schoolgirl*

AnimeFest should be a big deal, I know I'm planning to be out there with at least if not a few friends in tow.
Will you be there, Sir Richard?
Still Meggers, just a little more grown up now. :)
