It's actually a sub-genre of SteamPunk, called DustPunk... and it covers the North American west.  The clothing styles are a bit less formal, and the gadgets more rough-n-ready than the European versions, and just as imaginative.

Those of us who are a bit older than our early 20's (or even very early 30's... LOL) may actually remember the original series Wild, Wild West, and all the really cool SteamPunk style inventions they had.  It was really cool, and frequently hilarious!

While the Will Smith version of Wild Wild West could be considered Steampunk, many of us who are fans of the original TV series starring Robert Conrad as James West and Ross Martin as Artemus Gordan to be the ONLY Wild Wild West show. It was a BAD move to put Will Smith in as James West. And while I love Will Smith as an actor, making him James West would be like making Eddie Morphy as King Henry the VIII.

The original WWW was a GREAT Show. I wish it was on today's TV as it is a classic and very Steampunk and the start of it all in many ways. Also the clothing was often very beautiful and the stories imaginative.

To be honest, I'll try and make the morning Meet 'n Greet but beyond that, the rest of the day is left to be free for whatever I want. Post R/F Meet n' Greet, if she dances this year, I'm gonna try and run over to Lord Randolphs to catch Element dance. Can't guarentee I'll be anywhere longer than a moment. :P

In other non-TRF Invasion talk...I wanted to share some photos from The Brass Ball and Kintescope, two steampunk events that have happened here in Dallas, and along with a link to a steampunk-themed coffee shop that is being opened in Dallas.

We've got an active group here in Dallas, many crews and such.

Here is the link for Kintescope, it took place at Panoptikon, one of our gothic night clubs back in Feburary.

The Brass Ball took place at The Church, also a gothic night club. This happened in March (might be considered NSFW, just forewarning)

And then here is the Generator, a recently opened coffee shop in Garland that is just getting up on its feet. There are some posts on the dfw_steampunk community about it.

Am I the only one who had a wee crush on the original Artemus?

So, my husband and I started playing Myst last night, and I couldn't help but think that many of the puzzle mechanisms & gadgets in the game had strong SteamPunk elements...

some info & screen shots here for those not familiar with the game:

Here we go...

I'll see what I can do about either getting an avatar or a picture of myself up soon enough. And a steampunk selkie will probably stand out pretty good, too.   :D If you see a brown-haired woman with brassy bits and a velvety gray sealskin around her shoulders, that would be me. :) And I'll try to meet you all at some location, maybe.

Target has some pretty cool wide/corset belts in up to an xxl.  My favorite is a one buckle number that looks like brown leather/canvas but is elastic.  There's also a black one w/3 buckles w/5 or 6" elastic that goes to a l/xl, but still fits me okay.   The 3 buckle one is "leather" in front & would look cool under a jacket.

Thanks, Taffy! I have been looking for belt/cincher/corset-y thing for some time! I'll be hitting Target soon  :)

I think the Universe is conspiring to make a S'punker of me yet...my Father-in-law picked up some sunglasses for me at a yard sale because he thought they "just looked like something I would wear"...they've got metal frames made to look like aged brass with black accents in places, round-ish dark brown lenses, with springs on the arms, and some little lightning-bolt designs. I'll post pics when I can  :)

Came across a link for a steampunk kilt... alt kilt?   Looked like a brown-canvas (utilikilt style) with gearings and toggle buckles...  Run that past him!
