Lady Kathleen, thanks for the link.  Great buttons are hard to find.

I know this photo is rather awful ... but I wanted to share!  This coat was a project a friend and I have been working off and on for a long while (we both have crazy busy schedules).  It's an altered Vogue pattern.  The dark red material has fine black scrolls, and the buttons are winged dragons with fish tails.  And there are hidden pockets!

Obviously I'm in mundanes in the photo.  I'm still fine-tuning the rest of my piratical garb.

That looks great.  With all these pirate jackets, I think I need to make me one now.
May the stars always shine upon you and yours.

Thank you for the link.  I think the DH found this place before and was drooling over the buttons. Trying to explain to people that sometimes you buttons cost more than you fabric is often very difficult to do.

I may have to invest in the JP ryan patterns.  I'm also curious of your review of the pattern it's self.
It is kind of strange watching your personal history become costume.

You need to hit the button rooms on Perth street in Dallas. I have found some marvelous buttons for very little cost.
One of His Excellency's doublets actually has porcelain buttons with gold inlay.

Sadly I don't get down that way  :(  You know sometime we are going to have to send the boys off for a pint and compare notes, you do realize that, right?  ;D

I have that one in my stash waiting to be made.  But did you have problems with the shoulders?  I've read a couple of reviews were people had them slipping off.

Not really.  But I have wide shoulders so maybe that's why?  The shoulder straps were also something I adjusted in the pattern.  Instead of making it one long strap coming from the back and attaching to the front, I made it half from the front and half from the back and meeting at the top of my shoulder, so maybe that helped too?

The JP Ryan patterns for vests and Pirate coats are the only ones I use.

http://www.jpryan.com/gentspatterns.html The Waistcoat and 1750's coat patterns are what I use. FANTASTIC and easy to follow.

This is the pattern Lady Kathleen will be using on my Swashbuckler/Pirate coat and then modding it

And this is the drawing for it

It will be in a burgandy with black lapel and cuffs with lace on the cuffs and trim on the collar. Under it I will wear this

and an off the shoulder light weight shirt that will hang and show about 1" below the jacket also with lace trim on the shoulders, cuffs and bottom hem

I have tried forever to get a copy of the Jean Hunniset Men's clothing book, but the last time I checked it was $150 USED!!!  I may just go this route and get the patterns I really want.  Out of curiosity, do these patterns have alter lines?

New Tudor I finished just in time for Scarby last weekend  ;D  Have some minor adjustments to make to it, as well as adding more trim and pearls and what not.  Luckily I have 3 weeks before I'm heading to Scarby again, so I should have enough time!

Nice!
You made it into Paul's photo spread a couple of times.
