Lovely, all.

Here's my latest ensemble. I made the hood, bodice, chemise, skirt, and bracers.

And here's an overdress I made. Someone else made the chemise for me.

Great job Manwariel.  Love the bodice.
May the stars always shine upon you and yours.

The new gown is finished. It ended up being Marie D'Assigny merged with Lady Mary Guildford. No photos yet but I will be wearing it Saturday for RenDevous at Scarborough.
I used the Tudor Tailor book to draft the sleeves. There is almost enough fabric in the sleeves for half of a skirt.

CenturiesSewing

A very pink kirtle, well really more of a desaturated watermelon color with blue undertones, but that is a bit of a mouthful to say.

This is a very old project, I made it when I knew just enough about sewing to be dangerous. ;D
As a result the bodice was too big, it lacked interlining and the skirt was too long. I think I wore it once and then moved on to other projects and other fabric.
So it lingered in the back of the closet for a number of years until guilt got to me and I picked it apart. I took the bodice in, trimmed the waist down and shortened the skirt and made new sleeves. You can't beat rebuilding old costumes into something you want to wear.

But down to the grit of it, the fabric is a rayon/cotton or a linen/rayon blend, the bodice is interlined with just twill and canvas, no boning. The skirt is just 2 panels of 60 inch wide fabric, simple and light weight. The sleeves pin on with simple sewing pins as I cannot find where my lacing rings went, and much to my surprise the sleeves have stayed on just fine with the pins. Side lacing through hand sewn eyelets, hand finished hem. Under it all is my usual cotton smock, parlet and rust red petticoat (one day I'll get around to making them in linen), black knit stocking and linen garters.

Eventually I want to make an over gown for it and another set of sleeves, maybe in blue.

CS, I *just* saw that on your blog (like, ten minutes before you posted!). I didn't realize it was brand-spankin' new! :D

This is a rather modest accomplishment in comparison to everyone else's, but I have made a Critical Costuming Component: Using the eyelet function on my Viking, I've made myself a set of temporary lacing strips!

You can see an extremely unflattering picture of them in action here.
Unflattering, perhaps, but you can see how well they work. It was also my first time test-fitting my corded corset (which is too small b/c I've gained 6 lbs since I started it), and everything they say about cording is 100% true. Unbelievably comfortable; Milord kept tightening and tightening and saying, "Does it hurt?" Incredible. Not that an ordinary corset is *uncomfortable,* but WOW.  Can't wait to have one that actually fits! I also think that cording might be the answer to my bodice fitting woes; it remains to be seen, but after seeing how it conforms instead of gaping, I have high hopes!

And now I've just realized I need another set of lacing strips, since the kirtle I'm working on has two openings.  ::)

Excellent!

I really need to make some of these too...

Just realized I never shared my big needlework finish from last year!

This piece took me eleven years to stitch!! (There were a couple years in there where I didn't stitch at all, but still. :P)

Here's a WIP pic of the same, so you can see the stitches a little better:

I'm actually working on that same pattern minus the border.  It is a haul to do it. It is great to see it done up well. :)
It is kind of strange watching your personal history become costume.

OT on the time period, but this is my latest set of creations for my Victorian customer:

I have another gown and a straw bonnet to do for this lady in the next month.
