OT for period, but I thought you might like to see our latest offering: the pink silk and silver lace gown based on a 1909 French original.  Our version is silk dupion broight in Hong Kong by the bride, embellished with French silver lace and pink cultured pearls.  We also made the roses, and the S curve corset that goes under the gown.  The gown is lines with ivory silk, and there's a matching petticoat.  The hems of both gown and petticoat are given weight with horsehair braid, and there's a loop up the inside fof carrying the train for dancing.

The bride wore my mother's wedding veil, dating from 1954.  I worse it, as did my sister, my cousin, my mum's cousin, and several friends over the years!

Oh. My. Kate!!!!!  :o

Can you explain more about how that beautiful floral spray lace (?) embellishment on the skirt works? How was it applied?

(I love that you loaned out your mother's veil! I have loaned mine--not that beautiful, by far!--to a couple of close friends, and it's such a lovely feeling to be the owner of the Something Borrowed!)

I'll do a proper LJ dress diary of it that's open to all to see when I get the energy!  Meanwhile...

Su took the lace that was left from making the blouse (there was 3 metres of it: about £200's worth!) and cut the major paisley swirl that was left out of it.  She then cut the other motifs out...  We placed them on the silk, pinned them in place, and sewed them down!  Then we carefully (CAREFULLY!) snipped the excess tulle from round the edges of the motifs.  After that we sewed the pearls on.

It took the two of us two 12 hour days to complete the embellishments.  If anyone wants to know, that's six normal working days at £100 per day!

My client drove down from  Minnetonka this afternoon to pick up his ensemble. He was smiling large and like a kid on Christmas morning. He looked beautiful. I could not get over how the trims shimmered in the sunlight.

Sir Richard, Lady K: Those outfits are stunning.  Lovely work, both of you.

Gene looks SMASHING! Odd not to see him in green but I do really like the red on him! :)

It's done! Yes, yet another kirtle, this time in a drape-y suiting weight wool.

Close up of the fabric:

Said kirtle on me with doom and gloom weather in the distance, and new hand sewn partlet.
There is a little bit of funkyness at the straps. I made a new sleeve block the other day (hello tin foil patterning!) and will be adjusting my bodice block strap width to stop that in the future.

Oooh! How very Gothic of you!  (With the fog and wind)

And that wool is marvelous. I know *just the accessory* for that kirtle!  :D

I made my first coif!  The join is a little sloppy, but I like the way it looks, and I'll probably make another.  The band could stand to be a little bigger I think.

A few months ago, Gene drove down from the Cities to spend almost 5 hours with me. We sat in my diningroom going over fabris Trims, etc., designing exactly what he wanted. It was Gene who selected the color scheme, trims, etc., based on what i did for Toki Bloodaxe. He said he had been following my work here for over 2 years.

He slected me because he wanted to look "Unique and Original".

Thank you for the compliment. The honor goes to Gene.
