wow! great work everyone! I am totally jealous :)

Here is my sweet baby girl, Charlotte's finished Italian inspired gown. I had to add a "growth pleat" because my child is a giant, and grows an inch a day. She will be one the day before opening day at the MDRF :)

she's giving me her "mom, im a toddler now. Im too cool to pose" look

BELLISIMA!!

So adorable! You know, that pleast just begs for a nice gold guard, or something rich (but inexpensive) to hide the join.... and as she grows, she'll get more and more 'bling' around her hem to show off how tall she's gotten. (you know those Italians... fancy fancy fancy...)

You do such great work (both mommy-ing and sewing!)

LadySeasan

Thank you! Calliope, that is a great idea. I do have this gorgeous trim (it's ivory, not gold), that I might try out to hide the joint :)

Here is the trim I was talking about. What do you think of it being added to the join line of the growth pleat?

What a little darling!  And beautiful, just like her mum.   :)

The braid will look really cool.

Perfect!! That will be lovely with her gown.

If that's the home dec fabric I think it is, it's quite a challenge to find something that will POP - but I think you've nailed it!

LadyShadow

She looks adorable. Great job.
May the stars always shine upon you and yours.

Hello! Longtime Lurker here! I am in the midst of some costume-making but it feels like everyone in my family is taking my skills for granted right now. I need a little encouragement! None of my stuff is historically accurate at all, which is why I was nervous about posting here before, but I LOVE this thread and I come on here any time I need inspiration. Some of the trims/beads/detail work on the outfits in this thread just stun my socks off! I'm so much of a hurried costume-maker I just can't wait to get done and get on to the next thing!Anyway, here are some of my favorite ren-fair creations I've done so far.

This is from a few years ago, me and my two brothers at the Texas Ren Fest. All of the textiles are by me and all of the chainmail and leather is by John. (on the right)

My outfit is inspired by Susan's Battle outfit from the Prince Caspian Narnia movie. John and Nick's are both based on their LARP characters. It's dark red wool with galvanized steel mail shirt and a waxed leather cuirass. All the guys undershirts I make are Butterick 4486 which I absolutely love, tabards are pretty simple.

This is my husband in an outfit I made for him. The doublet I drafted in my intermediate costume class in college and the hat I made with directions from an online tutorial. (The Renaissance Tailor I think.)

This is last year's outfits. I was 7 months pregnant! Comfort was really my main goal. I made everything from scratch with about $50 worth of materials. I really splurged on the skirt, which is overlapping organza petals and so much fun! It ties in the back to adjust for a growing belly. The white chemise I made with other costumes in mind, I should be able to reuse it for a wench or pirate outfit this year. The bodice isn't as nice as I would like. I based it on a bodice I made a while back but my chest grew significantly during my pregnancy and I miscalculated how to enlarge it. I never neededdarts in my shirts before!

Hi Angela welcome out of lurkerhood!

Your stuff looks great. I'd love to see a full shot of the doublet you drafted for your husband, the fabric you used looks lovely.

DonaCatalina

Yes, the doublet looks tasty. Excellent job on the collar for it. That bit can be tricky.

Well  met Angela! You don't have to be h/a to play here ;) (At least *I'm* not all the time lol) Good stuff! I'm jealous you know someone who does mail! If your friends and fam are making you feel taken for granted, you should make something for yourself and go to *town* on it, that way they will all be jealous your outfit is prettier ;)

You did a fabulous job!!!  No worries about historical accuracy here.  We embrace all who come to play!
Got faerie dust?

LadySeasan

Thanks ladies! So I will definitely add that trim to wear the growth pleat is added at :) Other than that, her garb is done. Still gotta get to JcPenny's for her shoes.  I am thinking of making her one more gown, with a less fancy fabric!

So, anyone who read my pet costume quandry thread--here's the finished product:

I had a flash of insight a couple weeks ago while in Joann's: make a bib and slap a chest strap on it! I gave her lots of praise, so she likes putting it on :D She's still too fidgety for a "real" Ren outfit; maybe this will help her adapt ;)
(I resewed the velcro outlined in red thread, so it matches the yellow now.)

That turned out great! And boo is adorable!
