Lovely work! It looks soft and comfortable.
What dress will you be wearing with this?

It is comfortable - I was running around in it when I finished it last night.  I was so happy it got done!   ;D

The smock is more for cooler events - I'll be wearing a variety of gowns over it, just when the weather turns chilly.  Most of my chemises are just that - open around the neck to allow heat to escape.  Makes them perfect during the summer and early fall in Maryland but horrible the rest of the year.  So, this is to extend some of my existing wardrobe well into the cooler months.

Sweet bag to go with the gown

This went together in an hour total time, using scraps from the bag..Cost nada.
The cord is left over front he yardage used to lace the gown and the aglets and rings were from old old jewelry project left overs.
The tassels came from the bottom of my sewing box, still covered in plastic.  I don't remember where I got them from...

Before this goes to the dreaded second page, I actually made some items for da nephews.  :-)

The littlest one got a tropical weight wool plaid t-tunic, a pair of wool pants (he's not wearing them because both my brother and I agreed, it was just too hot), and a shift I made for one of his brothers a couple of years ago.

Next up we have middle child!   He is wearing an orange linen a-tunic top with hanging sleeves (popular in Germany) with a linen shift beneath it.   I added gold and blue trim from the ribbons I used many years ago for my Eleanor De Toledo gown.

And for the eldest nephew, I made a linen basic smock and a purple linen t-tunic with some cording.  He had been playing with the trim and the blue "diamond" started to fall away by the end of the day. Whoops!  But an easy fix.

Now, to get started on their outfits for Halloween!

  Thank you all!

I am pleased with this one, being my second effort at the MA pattern. ;D

It was much easier this time round, since I figured out the pattern instructions last time via trial and error, and only referred to them a couple of times while sewing this project for guidance on assembling the parts.
I also had the pre-fitted pattern pieces ready to go, made from the muslins last year.  My sleeves have to be a good 3" shorter than the pattern.
I did not put gores in the over skirt this time, which really helped make the velvet guards go on easier.
I did gore the poplin petticoat to add a little bulk to help keep the hoops from showing; that fashion fabric is deceptively light weight.
I plan to make a matching pouch or sweet bag to carry my phone and cards.

I'm  taking a break now...I always make Davids' matching garb first, so I can use the last of my energy on my stuff.   He told me that after seeing my gown, he wished he would have OK'd the green velvet for the front....
Very well done Rowan

Thank you!  I really wish he would have pulled his cuffs out the bottom of the sleeves for this picture :P, the ruffs on the cuffs match his collar.  I changed the clasps on the front too; the pretty, vine patterned ones in the photo don't seem to like staying closed.
I am happy to say he did wear the sleeves correctly at faire.
We will be wearing our (sort of) matched sets at DMRF next weekend.  There is a good chance it will be brutally hot and humid, but the green material is surprisingly light weight, and I kept the velvet on my version to a minimum.
I have also constructed a neck cooler from matching green satin (Thank you again, Orphena!)
I had to interface the doublet lining  and tabs to give it some body, but David reported that he was quite comfortable with the temps in the mid 80's when he wore it for the first time.

Sorry for the blurry photo.  The dress is a teal wool (not slate blue like in the photo).  Mom will be wearing it tomorrow at the Renn Fest.  :-)

Isabella, that's beautiful! That gown is on my maybe-someday list, too! I have it on a magnet on the fridge next to the computer, but until I saw your image, never realized her bodice is blue! (It looks all black on the magnet.)

I'd love to see it on your mum!

Thanks, Gem!  Here's a picture of Mom with sleeves (she liked them)

Anthemis, love the mask!   I think you need a blue doublet though and a guitar, a la...

J/k   Very nice.  ;D

I totally agree! It turned out fabulously!! I love all the apothecary gear, and the leather mask (and its leathery color) is a really special touch.

I got to wear Side 1 of my new bodice this weekend!

I didn't get any photos of the back, unfortunately (after all these years, you'd think Milord would understand that it's all about photographing the *garb,* not just me. Snork!), but I am delighted with how the tabs turned out. The fit in the back is *perfect,* and I didn't have any skirt waistband issues at all. Huzzah!

The binding is microsuede, my favorite corset/bodice binding fabric, and it was done (egad) by hand. Not my first idea, but it turned out to be the best application. (Oh, the tabs were bound by machine. That would have been just silly!)

Special thanks to Christina (InsidiousRaven), who painstakingly photographed & measured her Moresca Max II for inspiration. :)

 That turned out wonderfully!
Moresca uses stripes in much the same way, and yours looks a bit like their Phillipa bodice (shown being worn with a set of matching slops):

Thanks! I love the Philippa, and I *so* wish we had Moresca at our fair!!  We do have Ophelia's, though, and for the last howevermany years, I've been admiring a chevron-stripe bodice on their racks, and thinking, "I should just do that with the fabric in my stash!" And so.  ;) I looked at SOOOO many bodices in the last couple of years, trying to decide what I wanted. It finally took settling on the fabrics, and letting them tell me what they wanted to be.

I think Milord is going to want a doublet or jerkin from that fabric now. If he hasn't earmarked the rest of the bolt for a chair. ;) (It was $1.00/yard at Walmart like a hundred years ago, and I have something like 11 yards left.)

That looks awesome Gem!  I want one!!!  What did you use for boning?  It looks very sturdy and absolutely perfect.
