So... I keep getting sidetracked from the sewing projects I have lined up, and I always feel like such a fraud when I mention them, but never have anything finished to post.  I thought I might share one of the reasons I haven't had time to sew, for a while, anyway.  I hope no one minds.  This isn't at all related to sewing, but it IS related to garbing... fantasy garbing. anyway.

These are the Steampunk Faerie Wings I make...

These are being worn by my daughter:

A more detailed shot:

Hopefully I will have some time to sit down and sew, here in the next few weeks!  I've been marveling over all of the lovely work everyone has been posting, and it makes me want to be sewing, myself!

But Rani, it doesn't have gears on it!!  J/k

I really love the wings!   I've been meaning to make a pair for my steampunk Ever After gown and maybe yours will help inspire me to actually finish mine.   ;D

  I love them!
The copper (?) wire reminds me of the copper foil I used to use on stained glass projects.

Has anyone tried to make a stained glass-style pair of wearable wings? The 'glass' would have to be plastic sheets or film....

Molly, the trick is a very high tight armscye and a high under the armpit, low curve on the sleeve head sleeve.
No ease in the sleeve head also helps.

I'll try and take some photos in a day or two of my patterns.

Thanks, CS!  That would be cool to look at.

Oh, what a wonderful idea, Rowan!  There is some really lovely colored shrinkable film out there that would work wonderfully!  And yes, it is hand hammered copper wire... about a 10 gauge, with 18 gauge used to attach the larger pieces together.

Thank you, ladies.  I actually sold these within about 3 hours of posting them, although they didn't ship until the next day.  I will be working on more sets as soon as my finger (that may, or may not, be broken) heals.  Not sure how much of any kind of crafting I'll be doing in the next couple of weeks...  :-\

  You're welcome!
Post pictures if you make a pair-I'd love to see them. ;D

One of my long term projects finally done, based on the market woman from the Nonesuch maps. Hand sewn linen/cotton blend shirt, ancient pink linen/cotton kirtle, wool blend fitted gown I posted about a few months ago, hand sewn and starched linen/cotton blend ruffs, linen apron and yard cloth. Linen forehead cloth and coif, wool felt hat with finger loop braid band.

Centuries, as usual, absolutely lovely!

This isn't really new - at all- but I added new trim.

The original dress had green rayon velvet trim that didn't fit at all with the period but I wanted green trim, darn it!   ;)  I've since realized a far more neutral trim will do much better - and one that doesn't clash with the time period.  The new trim is actually selvage from a piece of wool scrap.  It worked out well on the linen dress, I think.  :-)  ( And yes, the dress desperately needs to be ironed!)

For more info on the dress and new trim, check out my blog post: http://isabelladangelo.blogspot.com/2014/01/hsf-14-1-make-do-mend.html

A couple more hand-stitched pieces since late November:

A liripipe hood (100% wool lined with 100% linen)

And a 1400s man's cote (100% wool lined with muslin)

And a 1740s Scottish sleeved waistcoat (100% wool lined with cotton flannel)
