I can so relate to this, Jack!

When our younger son (now age 24) was in 4th grade, at the beginning of the school term, the teacher gave them a project to have ready for parent's night open house.  The topic was "The person  who has most influenced my life is."

Steve and I went to the open house, sat on the miniscule desk clusters along with the other parents.  Everyone started reading the essays.  The  influential people for the whole class included mom, dad, grandmother, grandfather, etc.  Except for one child.

Matthew's was MacGyver.
