Has anyone else ever noticed just how well a musician is able to...I dunno...sum up exactly what you're feeling at a given moment and put it so eloquently into verse and song?

Yea...me too

Lady_Lily

Lyrics
Nickelback
"If Today was Your Last Day"
My best friend gave me the best advice
He said each day's a gift and not a given right
Leave no stone unturned, leave your fears behind
And try to take the path less traveled by
That first step you take is the longest stride

If Today Was Your Last Day
and tomorrow was too late
Could you say goodbye to yesterday?
Would you live each moment like your last?
Leave old pictures in the past
Donate every dime you have?
If today was your last day

Against the grain should be a way of life
What's worth the prize is always worth the fight
Every second counts 'cause there's no second try
So live like you'll never live it twice
Don't take the free ride in your own life

If today was your last day
and tomorrow was too late
Could you say goodbye to yesterday?
Would you live each moment like your last?
Leave old pictures in the past
Donate every dime you have?
Would you call old friends you never see?
Reminisce of memories
Would you forgive your enemies?
Would you find that one you're dreamin' of?

Swear up and down to God above
That you finally fall in love
If today was your last day

If today was your last day
Would you make your mark by mending a broken heart?
You know it's never too late to shoot for the stars
Regardless of who you are
So do whatever it takes
'Cause you can't rewind a moment in this life
Let nothin' stand in your way
Cause the hands of time are never on your side

If today was your last day
and tomorrow was too late
Could you say goodbye to yesterday?

Would you live each moment like your last?
Leave old pictures in the past
Donate every dime you have?
Would you call old friends you never see?
Reminisce of memories
Would you forgive your enemies?
Would you find that one you're dreamin' of?
Swear up and down to God above
That you finally fall in love
If today was your last day

So... my 8 y/o daughter has become a total head-banger, and we were caught rockin' out to this in the school parking lot this morning!  At least the windows were up, so the other parents don't think we're, I dunno, devil worshipers or something...   ::)  ;D

Enter Sandman by Metallica

Say your prayers little one
Don't forget, my son
To include everyone

Tuck you in, warm within
Keep you free from sin
Till the sandman he comes

Sleep with one eye open
Gripping your pillow tight

Exit light
Enter night
Take my hand
Off to never never land

Somethings wrong, shut the light
Heavy thoughts tonight
And they aren't of snow white

Dreams of war, dreams of liars
Dreams of dragons fire
And of things that will bite

Sleep with one eye open
Gripping your pillow tight

Exit light
Enter night
Take my hand
Off to never never land

Now I lay me down to sleep
Pray the lord my soul to keep
If I die before I wake
Pray the lord my soul to take

Hush little baby, don't say a word
And never mind that noise you heard
Its just the beast under your bed,
In your closet, in your head

Exit light
Enter night
Grain of sand

Exit light
Enter night
Take my hand
Were off to never never land

Things We Said Today ~ The Beatles

You say you will love me
If I have to go.
You'll be thinking of me,
Somehow I will know.
Someday when I'm lonely,
Wishing you weren't so far away,
Then I will remember
Things we said today.

You say you'll be mine, girl,
'Til the end of time.
These days such a kind girl
Seems so hard to find.
Someday when we're dreaming,
Deep in love, not a lot to say.
Then we will remember
Things we said today.

Me, I'm just the lucky kind.
Love to hear you say that love is luck.
And, though we may be blind,
Love is here to stay.

And that's enough
To make you mine, girl,
Be the only one.
Love me all the time, girl.
We'll go on and on.
Someday when we're dreaming,
Deep in love, not a lot to say.
Then we will remember
Things we said today.

Me, I'm just the lucky kind.
Love to hear you say that love is luck.
And, though we may be blind,
Love is here to stay.

And that's enough
To make you mine, girl,
Be the only one
Love me all the time, girl.
We'll go on and on.
Someday when we're dreaming,
Deep in love, not a lot to say.
Then we will remember
Things we said today.

OMG Nickie!

This was on a CD I burned and was on my CD player two days ago and kept playing in my mind.

Hands down, I thought it was Paul's BEST vocal.
Show me your tan lines..and I'll show you mine!

Funny about the synchronicity, sister-separated-at-birth!

It's truly amazing how prescient they were for such young people...This song is written almost more from the perspective of someone much older than they were.  It's actually a difficult song to sing, as well.  I like the harmonic fluctuations, it doesn't really go in a linear fashion, or the way you think it might resolve.

So many of their songs still stand as strong as when they were written, I think it's why people of all generations still enjoy them, whether it's discovering them for the first time or remembering them as old friends.

"I'm sick of mending the wounds of us"

And is it just me, or does that guy sorta look like Prof. Snape had he gone all pierce-y instead of all potion-y?

Maelstrom, seriously, your taste in music is so sexy.... will you be my boyfriend?!?!?!

What was great about the Beatles, Nickie, oh sister-separated-at-birth, was the dimensions each brought to the Beatles table.

John was great for the raw, sexy vocals. A very earthy edge to his songs.
Paul was good for the ballads and love songs.
George was great at the more soulful and a bit of anguish, i.e. 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps'

I don't know what Ringo brought--but it woudn't have been the same without him.
