Now that was d_mned funny!

That photo was taken last weekend of the Castle of Muskogee's dress rehearsal weekend. The faire starts next week for every weekend of May. I'm not a official playtron but was fortunate enough to be invited to many of the events to photograph the playtrons. The guy is in photo is "Guido", a long time playtron there. It was one of my favorite photos from the weekend. Here are a few shots taken after that photo......

Here is a crowd shot of the staff of official playtrons who "work the crowd" and really are the reason the faire grows every year. Actually, I think if you added all of the official and unofficial playtrons and just the folks who love to garb, you would have to triple the amount of players in this photo.

Here are a few more of my favorites......

I had room for one last photo on my CF card and when I mentioned it to this playtron, she replied "Good sire....I am joyful to know that I am your......(ahem)....."happy ending".

Thanks guys.....

Yeah, those are some fine ladies joined together in "Great Harry's Retinue". That last photo was funny to take. I turned around and there she was striking a pose....the first thing that came through my dirty ol' mind was "WWWHHHOOOooo.....I need to adjust my F-Stop for some depth....." (check out the group photo for a better angle).

The little girl was a natural ham, the minute she saw a camera pointing her way....she knew what to do. She may be the direct competition against my nephew during for the children's garbing contest and will probably win alone with that smile.

This first weekend may be a bust due to the weather. Today we were supposed to have "mild showers" and it's flooding down at the end of my street and for the entire weekend it's listed for "severe thunderstorms". That means in Oklahoma to tie off your bass boat to the front porch. Hopefully, it will move on because next weekend is the 3-day faire if you include the "Student's Day".

Well if that happened, then I guess that would truly be.....the "Picture of the Day!"  :o

Hy Vee, a Midwest grocery store chain, has a "spring party" every year in May, and each store has to pick its own theme for the party. Our local Hy Vee picked a Renaissance theme, and had the king & queen from the Four Kingdoms Renaissance Festival give demos on period dress, weapons, armor, dancing, etc all day outside the store yesterday.

Dressing the Queen (took 17 minutes with two helpers. She started in the chemise.)

The King in his Henry VIII inspired outfit.

The Royal Court (the King is wearing the rest of his Henry VIII outfit).

During the day, the store was grilling hot dogs, brats, hamburgers, corn on the cob, ribs, and turkey legs.

In the evening, they had a Medieval / Renaissance feast. There were three courses, the first with two removes, the second with three removes, and desert with three removes. The food was too good for me to remember to take pictures of everything, but I did get a couple of food shots.

The Royal Court's feast gear. The spoons and the bowl in the top right are all hand-made by the King.

The table settings. Real butter, mixed nuts, salt & pepper, figs & dates, honey butter.

The Royal Court minus one lady.

The Royal Court enjoying the bread.

We were the only patrons who went garbed. Here is my lovely wife.

And me.

First course was herb roasted chicken and honey-herb carrots. Second course was bacon & garlic stuffed beef roasted in ale, onion sop, and fungus au herbes.

Desert course was gingerbread, baklava, and orange bread pudding. No pictures of those, sorry. Here's a few more of the Royal Court.

All in all, a good time. I don't normally eat carrots, but I did eat the honey & herb carrots. I don't eat mushrooms, and that didn't change. The beef was to die for, I could almost cut it with my spoon. Of course, I used my eating dagger, but still.

People came and went throughout the day, never less than a dozen, though. There were about 30 of us at the feast, which isn't bad at $10 a seat. It was well worth it. They used authentic recipes, and the food was excellent. We were even given copies of the recipes to take home and try ourselves.

That's really cool. I don't think any store here would do that. Glad yo had a good time. That food look great. And I like the plates and eating utensils. Very stylish and period.

Really neat to see that whole feast experience!
