Just saw it last night and it was, plain and simple, TEH AWESOME!!!!
The only thing that would have made it even more perfect was giving Scotty more screen time!!
There wasn't a single actor who made me go "Well, maybe he/she wasn't the best choice" and Carl Urban absolutely nailed Bones!
Loved that every character got to deliver their "signature" line ("Fascinating" "I'm givin' her all she's got, Captain!" et al) and that the Enterprise looked like the original Enterprise (outside at least) but didn't clash with the rest of the movie effects (see the end of Revenge of the Sith where, after all the nifty neat-o special effects littering that movie, Darth Vader is a guy with a tape recorder on his chest).
Oh! and that is one seriously scarey future if that monstrosity is just a mining ship!!  :o
This was also the first Star Trek movie that felt like a movie and not just an extended episode....to me at least.
The winks and nods to the original series were great fun, too! Red shirt, anyone?
As for "cannon", I am extremely happy the writers did what they did.  Now, they have the ability to go anywhere and do anything they want.  Everything's up in the air now, leaving nothing safe! Muahahahahahahahaha!  ::)

***Spoiler Alert***

Only time I'm saying that because if you have not seen it yet your plastic model making privileges are here by revoked!   ;D

I do not mind the destruction of "cannon" but I do like continuity.  The time stream thing is perfectly acceptable to me and I look forward to the future films based on the "new" timeline.  That said, I have a question...How by the love of Spock's ears did they know the ship coming from the anomaly was Romulan?  Remember, alternate time line or not, earth folk did not know what Romulans looked like.  For that matter, Vulcans did not know either.  (I must state here, I do indeed prefer my Romulans with long brunette hair and mini-skirts!  Oh indeed I do!).  I'll have to go back and see it again to see if I missed something.

Now my space undies aren't in a bunch over this, just noting a storyline "anomaly".  Not like the other movies didn't have dozens of them ('member Spock's "jet boots"?  Shot up to deck 75 in the enterprises elevator shaft?  Half the fun of 'Trek is spotting the goofs!).

One thing I liked about the way they did the Enterprise is the way the guts of the ship looked.  Cargo holds, engine rooms, weapons bays, etc. weren't just pretty sterile rooms. Pipes & struts & catwalks and all. Made the old girl look like a warship instead of a cruise liner. Didn't see any of the crew areas but as crowded as the operations areas were, I suspect they aren't overly spacious either.

...can't wait for the DVD with deleted scenes and out takes!!!!!  Maybe around Christmas?

I went, I saw, I liked! I have no problem with the time travel/multiple reality plot device in Star Trek, it is tried and true in this environment. If doing this can breath new life into the franchise I'm all for it.
Thanks,

What a fun, satisfying ride!  It was enjoyable to see a fresh character study on these tried and true icons.  The actors nailed the spirit of their respective characters, especially those of Chris Pine's Kirk, Zach Quinto's Spock, and Chris Urban's grumpy McCoy, the classic "Big Three".  Simon Pegg's Scotty made me Riot's Disease over wanting to get ahold of the Enterprise's "ample nacelles", and Anton Yelchin's Chekov was gleefully fun.  Ben Cross' Sarek was well done, as was Bruce Greenwood's inspirational Christopher Pike.  All in all, a hell of a fun, well written movie.  Yes, there were some minor plot holes, but what story doesn't?

Some of the daring choices made in the story left me slack-jawed and astonished.  But this is a new 'reality' for a venerable franchise.  I'm looking forward to what's in store.

Did Bacardi ever drag his sorry man-skirted arse to the theatre?  Oi!  Bacardi!  Drop that Muffin and report in!

While we're at it, I have this to say.  I've been snooping over at a Trek-based board, and what a lot of self-important wankers!  Yeah, the apple cart has been upset.  Deal with it.  There's an exhilarating new set of yarns to be spun.  We're talking about a 43-year old franchise that is mired like a mammoth in its own technobabble-heavy mythology.  Shake it up!  Roll the dice a bit and see if you can come up with something new.  Take these well known characters and give them a brave new world to play in.  I like it this new timeline.  It's exciting!

LOL!  On an automotive forum they would be called "Fanboys".  Saw a review that stated "This is not your fathers Star Trek"!  Well My dad hated Trek when I was a kid...He thouroughly enjoyed this one!

Now being a dyed in the wool Trekkie, I went out and picked up Season one, the original series on Blueray...WOW!  It is indeed a good time to be a fan.  I am very much looking forward to new adventures...and new plastic models to build.   ;D

As my sister so kindly reminded me - and tattled on me to my son, I had models hanging by wires in my room as a teenager.  So we - sis, BIL, & son - schlepped out Saturday evening to a packed theatre & I happily rejoined the crew of the Enterprise.  Trekking hasn't been so enjoyable in many, many, many years.

I'm a casual trekkie and I really, really enjoyed it.  It was FUN!  My dad, who's a trekker from way back in the day, really disliked it though.  "This is not your father's Star Trek" indeed.  Oh well.  I suppose you can't please everyone!

So I've never been what you'd call a Trekkie, but I think I might end up becoming one due to the show...  I loved the show indeed, so much that i made me start watching the original series.  It's pretty funny actually, and much better than I thought it would be.  I thought I'd watch an episode or two and get bored, I mean it was made in 1966, but I'm really enjoying it!!!

Just saw it tonight, and aye I was wearing my kilt...

The movie was good, but I hate to say some of the holes in the timeline did bother me. Thou I guess the whole Romulan screwing with the timeline negates the originals series timeline. I always seem loyal to the originals, hence the reason I will never watch the Starsky and Hutch movie, it was never a comedy. I will probably just have to watch it again and I will be fine. I have to say Scotty and Bones had me rollin' thou.....spot on.

P.S. - Muffin did enjoy the movie... :)
