I've found steampunk interesting for awhile now but only after seeing DHs pics from A-Kon have I seriously considered putting together a costume.  I don't know that I'd wear it to Scarby or TRF (unless its SP invasion weekend) but I might wear it if I ever get to go to Dickens on the Strand or at A-Kon.

I'm still wondering if I'm too old for a steampunk costume (*cough* 35 *cough*)

groomporter, I would almost reconsider my pirating ways to wear that kick behind badge - sa-weet!

Too old? Never! That's like saying you're too old to wear garb to faire. I could you being a very beautiful and elegant steampunk madam with some kick-arse weapons!

*cough - 54 - cough!cough!*  I never thought of making, buying or wearing any kind of garb until I dealt w/cancer that was within weeks of killing me 8 years ago - liberating.  Now I'm travelled, tattooed, garbing, and going to windycon if it kills me.  Never let something as inconsequential as numbers - on a scale, years, time - get in your way.  Life is short enough as it is w/o constructing your own speed bumps.

For the Minnesota crowd at CONvergence again this year the crew of the HMA Badger is hosting a steam punk themed mystery game.

And there's a MN LiveJournal group to keep up on local meet-ups and there's a couple MNRF people on it besides me http://community.livejournal.com/mn_aethernauts/

My name is being bandied about!  I went through a Victorian craze about 15 years ago, so it's no great surprise that neo-Victorianism has bit me - hard.  Although the S word is not Ren, I think it could be fun to vary garb.  I hope we have a nice showing on Halloween weekend - probably Saturday.

This dress - w/some mods - is being made for me:

Taffy LOVE the dress. Might I inquire as to who is making it for you?

Lady de Laney, eBay store:  TSSY2005

I've never had anything made by them so I will withhold judgment until the day I get it into my hot little hands, which is probably a month away.   They are extremely good at communication and I had an additional reasonable fee for plus size, as I am very fluffy.  I think they would work hard to tailor the dress as necessary, but expect an additional charge for size/postage/tailoring.  I've had very good luck w/Chinese-based tailoring eBay garb and am hopeful this will work out well, too.  *fingers/toes crossed*

Let me know how it turns out. It seems WAY cheap on the price considering I paid $500 for my Not so HA Goth Steampunk victorian gown.

It's nerve wracking to buy something sight unseen and not even be able to molest the fabric, but at the price - well, even if I'm not thrilled I'm not out the big bucks.

Oi!!!  Huy am tinking diz vil be deh bestest invayshun ve Jagerkin haf efer make!!!

Woot!!!  Taffy, I adore your future garb, and I'm soooo envious of the top hat!!!  :o  It's volcanik, dollink!!!  I'm thinking I might have to pass on any of the actual GG characters for myself, and go more industrial/military than most of the fems in the comic.  I'm thinking the de/re-constructed/Victorian look, maybe with buckled and laced corset, leather and lace spats and gauntlets, and of course the hat...  I've already got the fabrics I want to use, it's just a question of how I'm going to put them together!

I can hardly wait!  This looks to be quite the invasion!!!   ;D

Indeed, spent an entire evening geekin' it out and talking steampunk and sketching ideas and looking at ideas my friend Brook had who is going to be sky pirate with me. She had already started working on her leather bodice and has the fabric for her shirt so far. plus she gave me some boots and I freaked out cause she had two pairs that fit! So yay, one piece I don't have to buy. And they're gonna be so awesome with a belt + buckle on them and then with tall socks.

As soon as I get to working on stuff I'll have to take pictures but as of this point,

scarf=check!
boots=check!

^_^

Oh and my deadline is AnimeFest at this point, hopefully *crosses fingers* It all depends on if I can have my bodice made for me by September. If not, I'll tr to have everything ready to go by the Invasion at TRF.
