Miss Hoowil - A further complication on my original design actually takes such concepts as "float" into account. Movement in wings is very desirable, as is ease of attachment (and detachment). When I began thinking of these wing idea originally I had planned to do full angel wings (since they wouldn't seel me the ones off the dummy in Victorias Secret). The enhancement of the design involved a pair of sockets that could be sewn into the back of a garment. The wings would be made in matching pairs, but as individual items, each with a pin and a stop at the attaching end. Thus what you would end up with would be a sort of floating hinge, so as you walk forward the wind of your movement would cause the wings to sweep back, and when you stopped they would drift forward again. You'd be able to have dozens of sets that you could switch out in seconds!

Yet another brilliant concept that I've never even begun to make practical.

Miss FaeHollow - I never would have thought of doing a wholly natural set of wings. I love the variety inherent in the idea! You are literally only limited by the selection of greenery you can get ahold of. This is actually a wonderful crafting idea for a group activity as well. Have you considered hosting workshops? Could be very beneficial...

FaeHollow

I've never thought of holding a workshop. I would have to get some people together that were interested in the area. Oh yes. Everytime I walk through hobby lobby I think about another new set of wings I could make... that would have NOTHING to do with any of the other wings. EVERY PAIR is their own. I love the endless possibilities! :D

I gave in I went and bought all the stuff to make a set of white floral wings... I will post pictures when I am done! Maybe one of the lovely fairies here will buy them off of me! I just enjoy making them!

These are my favorite fairy wings so far (of course, I'm biased, cuz that's my kiddo there, back at her very first faire). They're made of wire and some weird thread that's like straw that I can't remember the name of, and fake flowers and ribbons to girlify the whole thing. I was aiming for the absolute lightest wings I could make, since she was only four months old at the time.

A year or so later, I needed a quickie costume for a little convention here in town (I didn't know I was going until the day before), so I hijacked her wings and wore them myself:

Those are awesome! I just got back from walmart for the 2nd time today because I forgot floral wire! lol silly me!

Those are quite lovely, FaeHollow. I was thinking they would be perfect for a fairy wedding theme. :)

Yeah they would be... sadly I don't know anyone getting married with wings on to give them to! lol. It's wedding season so walmart had TONS of white floral I saw those cascading flowers and that spun off the rest of the design. When I finished I was like... ok so who is getting married? I wish that when i get married one day i could wear wings... my family wouldn't approve though. It'd be more of a hassle to deal with them than to not be a fairy. Which is sad!

Those are lovely.  As for your family, why wouldn't they approve.  As I understand it, brides wearing fairy wings are really "trendy" right now.

serenamoonsilver:
because its "weird" lol. My Grandmother would have a stroke... she thinks all my fairy obsessions are ridiculous! It's sad but she is really the one who will decide a lot of the things about my wedding because I don't want to fight with her... It makes me angry but she is very talkative and opinionated. I dunno though maybe I will defy them all and wear wings lol. We'll see. I might be crazy and they will all love the idea. It is very me. Maybe I could wear them at the reception... I dunno if I wanna knock my dad in the eye while we walk down the aisle lol. Oh well me being married is prolly a LONG way away so only time will tell!

They are very much bridal, but it makes sense just considering the supplies!  ;)

I have a friend who is getting married on the Fourth of July. She would probably really love these, but she's got the same problems with her inlaws that you do with your Gran. They're already pissed that the dress she got is going to show the kanji she has tattooed on her shoulder (it's both the japanese and chinese symbols for love, and they're only like 3 inches long altogether). They'd lose it if she came in wings.

Still, I am quite covetous of these...

FaeHollow

aren't families crazy! lol I told my boyfriend that when i got married maybe I would wear wings and he looked at me like i was crazy. Not because I mentioned marriage but because I mentioned doing it in wings lol. It's just very ME to do something like that... I have fairies everywhere... why couldn't I get married in wings! lol
