My name is RenRobin.  I like Ren faires and my real name is Robin.  I know not very imaginative, but I do respond to both Ren and Robin.

Lo these many years ago, the group I was hanging with said "you gotta pick a name or we will". So I choose Tavern Knight from an old Sabatini novel I was reading at the time. I used that name for many years and a lot of people still remember me that way & I'll still answer to it. Then a few years ago, Yahell completely ate my ID and I was going thru a breakup at the same time so I decided to remake myself. So here I am as Ravic.

Zardoz

'Zardoz' of course comes from the 1974 cult film by John Boorman. It was the best Sci-Fi movie starring Sean Connery made in 1974 in Ireland!  I have been a card carrying member of that cult since the 70's. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zardoz

I started using Zardoz maybe 15 or 20 years ago as a handle for playing NTN, a national bar trivia game. I just thought a name that is sort of it's own trivia question and had a little connection to Ireland would be cool.  When I got on the interweb I started using it as a handle on various fora, and there you go...

I have to admit,  after getting involved here with the RF forum, it did sort of freak me out when folks called me Zardoz at the next faire I attended, but it is far better than some nicknames I've had in my lifetime!

I don't have a faire name... sad. Most of the friends I went with for so long weren't die hards. I went with a group of die hards this past year though... none of them called me anything unusual... fairy was floating around but thats because some of them didn't actually know my name and when they found out they opted to call me Leigh. I will have a name this year as I am in the German court... and I am certain I will be camping so I might gain another name as well.

Fae, if it's any consolation, 20 years in and I STILL don't have a faire name  ;D ;D

Duckie84

A friend of mine at work/school dubbed me Duckie. So anyone involved with that group would talk about me as Duckie and it grew from there to another town. Then when hanging out with friends from faire there were just too many Sarahs so instead of taking a number or having them give me a name I gave them the one I already resopnded to. It spread more. And then I worked at a booth (the Black Dragon) and they had a no real names policy. I swear I answer to Duckie more often than Sarah.

I even get "I smell, I smell, I smell Duckie!" when I enter some local haunts.

Kinda funny when its in the middle of a karaoake song  ;D

I had wondered about your tag.  Thank you... sometimes nicknames have the strangest origins, while others are more mundane.  My name is Andrew but my mother called me Drew (unless i had pissed her off) but most of my friends, in high school, called me Drewbie.  The "why" of it still remains a mystery to me, 25 years later. ???

Oh, Duckie. I loves you so hard right now LOL....

And for the record? Blue tastes like cinnamon and sugary and softly spoken lies. At least, that's what the boys tell me.

Mine came from my armour which has several bear crest on it.  I just used Richard but given the number of Richard around its not surprising that it soon became Richard the guy in the bear armour which soon just became Richard Bear. Then someone added sir because your wearing armour so you must be a knight.   Given I'm relationed to Clan MacAuthur and MacAuthur is Son of Bear Heart it just seems to all fit togeather.

Thanks Z,   I wonder what the turn out for that would be like?  I might show up and bore the crowd with my extensive knowlege of all the minute details of the film!

I have to say i love responses to that question. Yours is one of the best.
I sometimes have to refrain from asking during serious matters like interviews.
