So,
I need to know something a bit random. I found some boots that I really like and they are offered in calf height and just above the ankle height (not sure of the technical term for this), but what i would like to know is...what is your experience with both of these heights. It doesn't matter what brand of boot you have, but I'd love to know the reason why you prefer one over the other, etc.

Thanks everyone!!!

The boots I wear with my noble garb are a few inches (3-4?) above the ankle.  I wish they were higher.  I have to wear tube socks with them or the top edge of the boot rubs against my leg as I walk and makes a mark.  I've never had that happen with calf high (or higher) boots.

Sorry, I can't be of help with either, Luv. All of my boots have been knee high, even in mundane life, so I've never had the experience of wearing shorter boots.

Lady_Lily

It's alright, what do you like about the knee highs that make you keep wearing them?

Blackjack Roberts

For myself it's both the look and feel of them.

Maybe I'm just a re-born swashbuckler but I've always though that knee boots looked much cooler than the others. (I always tucked my jeans inside.)

Not to mention there's a special feeling to having your legs encased in leather from the knee down. Kind of like calfskin gloves for the feet. :D

I've got to go along with this too. Knee high boots look so cool!

Plus I keep my flask in my boots.  ;)

Well it is about time you showed up Black Jack Roberts. What are you up to bud?  ;)

I myself am experimenting. I bought the Locksley boot for RF and this will be the second time wearing them but I am looking for others.

Unfortunately I can't give you a definitive answer as the group I belong to wear thigh-high boots as one of our a signatures.  I used to wear knee highs prior.  Friends of mine have both the ankle and mid-calf boots.  I suppose it all goes towards preference to the individual.  Each has its good and bad points I suppose.

Personally, I am a knee high boot gal, mainly because I have a hard time finding thigh high boots in my size that aren't vinyl go go boots.

For me the knee highs feel better, look better and are just more stylish than ankle or mid calf boots.
I do have a pair of ankle boots because I loved the pattern and the material, but I will only wear them with long pants (so they look like tall boots) and they are a bit uncomfortable to wear because the edges of the boot are constantly digging into my ankle when I walk- just the nature of the beast.

If I didn't live in florida and work in the marine industry I would probably wear knee high boots almost every day of the week.
For me they are a statement of who I am

Personally I go with knee high boots. I have always liked the mid thigh/ankle boots, but I had three problems with them:

1 - I didn't like how I looked in them when I wore them
2 - They revealed my ankle braces which I don't want showing as an actor because they (being this particular brand, not saying braces aren't cause I don't know) are far from period
3 - I couldn't find many ankle high boots that have good ankle/arch support that aren't hiking boots. (Then again, I couldn't find many faire boots that had the support I needed. Though the pair I got is perfect :D )

Plus I like that the knee high boots I have can pass for pirate boots if I really want them too. :D

IMO, go for the calf-high ones.

While I never had ren boots, I have a VARIETY of mundane boots and, with the exception of moccasins, at least mid-calf is the most comfortable.

Let's see...  I've not had any ankle high boots since elementary school, so I can't remember them well.  I do have two different sets of mid-calf height and love them.  One is tight, so that's great for the weather and the other loose and I love the air flow in those.  I also have a few mundane knee hight that are just smokin.  I just prefer those two heights since they look better on the leg, and don't made uncomfortable marks or cut in.
