The castle was built as an enclosed community. Like many European castles, it had a great round tower, on the raised mound (motte), enclosed by a moat and the river on the northern side, and an adjoining enclosure (bailey), that was completely destroyed in 1903.

I wonder what happened in 1903 to cause the bailey to be completely destroyed?

On satellite photos you can see that the area surrounding the tower is subdivided with houses and building of construction typical from 1900-1920. I would hazard that the town sold off the property to private owners except for the main tower itself.

Sarajevo as we know it today was founded by the Ottoman Empire in the 1450s upon conquering the region, with 1461 typically used as the city's founding date. The first Ottoman governor of Bosnia Province, Isa-Beg Ishakovi?, transformed whatever cluster of villages there was there into a city and state capitol by building a number of key objects, including the governor's castle ("Saray") which gave the city its present name.

Map coordinates 43.366667, 28.466667
The name "Kaliakra" is of Byzantine Greek origin and is traditionally translated as "Beautiful Headland".
The inaccessibility of the cliffs is the reason, that fortifications were built on the cape in ancient times. The earliest finds were dated to the IV cent. B.C.. Kaliakra saw its share of battles with the Ottoman Turks right up though the middle ages. The northernmost curtain wall extends across the entire peninsula.

Though often stated as being built in the 15th century, it was actually built in the late 12th century, when records show it as being used to house the Bishops of Lincoln. The tall brick tower was added in 1475, protected by walls and a moat, and surrounded by an outer bailey. It was used by the bishops until 1842.

Later fortified by Byzantines, it formed the defense of the island with the castles of Buffavento and Kantara against Arab pirates raiding the coast.

Kinbane Castle (Kenbane Castle) is situated in County Antrim, Northern Ireland, on a long, narrow limestone headland projecting into the sea. The two storey castle was built in 1547 by Colla MacDonnell, brother of Sorley Boy MacDonnell, with a large courtyard with traces of other buildings, probably constructed out of wood. In 1551 the castle was besieged by English forces under Lord Deputy, Sir James Croft, in the course of an expedition against the MacDonnell's. During another siege in 1555 by English forces, the castle was partly destroyed by cannon fire. Rebuilt afterwards, Colla MacDonnell died at the castle in 1558.
