...If you're doing (more or less) historically accurate garb, but not wearing H/A bias sewn stockings?

My current Fair shoes show quite a bit of my socks, so now I have another bit to obsess over.  ;D

Knee socks, ivory or black, depending on what I'm wearing, w/lace or other knit in design.  But I'm not traveling HA.

I LOVE my stripy socks they are the only ones that i wear to faire! they are alaHotTopic but I love em!

I even found some leg warmers that have skull and bones on them, hot pink and black stripes too!

Target has been getting some really spiffy socks too and since Halloween is just around the corner they are gonna get even funner ones too!

Did I mention that I am no way even close to H/A

Socks?  (or undergarments of any kind, really...)

Well ok, sometimes... like today... I'll wear your average, plain, white cotton tube-type socks, just to give my poor footsies some more cushion.  Particularly if I've gone on more walks during a full weekend at faire.
What's a Grecian Urn?  Are we talking union, or non-union?

I buy trouser socks, (basically kneed high opaque stockings.) You can find them in lot's of colors, though I usually choose black.

I do also have some cute stripped knee highs when I want a flash of color. I wear shoes as opposed to boots under my gown so you will see a bit as I walk and maneuver my skirts. I'm far from HA and I like the silliness of the striped sometimes. :)

I wear white tights. When I was wearing my boots (before they died on me at Scarby), I wore socks with them, and if it's just too hot for tights (which I think was only at Scarby, so far), then it's just regular socks. But otherwise, with my mary janes, I just wear the tights.

I usually wear knee-highs, mostly of cotton but sometimes of knitted wool. And I sometimes use gathers as well, as it helps keeping them in place (the skirts tend to twist and displace the socks, making it either end up in a lump around the ankle, or twisted around the leg like a caramel wrapper. Annoying!).

I'm not exactly HA, but since storebought knee socks always fall down on me, I knit my own with calf shaping and garters. I'm almost finished with my second pair... the first was a prototype made with Caron SimplySoft (acrylic sucketh, but it was worsted weight, so they flew off the needles) and the second is made with a fingering weight wool (might be something from Brown Sheep... lost the ball band ages ago).

I mostly wear the 17the century over the knee socks with a garter.  Tho I have enjoyed the target over the knee socks on colder days (and they are only $5).

I wear a cotton over the knee sock/stocking that I picked up at Bristol. I know online J Townsend http://jas-townsend.com/index.php and Smoke and Fire Company http://www.smoke-fire.com/hats-and-stockings-2.asp carry similar. Depends on the character but I tend to stay neutrally color coordinated for the noble. The wench however flashes out more, obviously.

I would wear period stockings if I could, but I have low blood pressure and when I stand all day (like at Faire) the blood pools in my legs and I get all faint.  So I bought black compression socks and that's what I wear.  Any knee-high, smooth surface (ie. not ribbed) socks will do, preferably in black, white, or red.  I really would recommend the compression socks though even for people who don't have low blood pressure, because being on your feet all day can lower your blood pressure and the compression socks help your blood keep circulating in your legs.  And especially when it's hot out, blood pressure drops faster then.

Second the stockings from JAS Townsend. They just put me in the right frame of mind, and they actually somehow keep my legs cool- not sure how, but, they do!

Lillith.... would you be able to share your pattern please?

I have some black over-the-knee socks to wear for now but intend to knit my own.  Is there any difference with men's garb?
