Fantastic, Gem!

It looks so clean and pretty - crispy box pleats too!

Gem, I agree with all that you did a great job on the garb and the color is a great choice for you!

This is my latest project for the St Louis Pirate Fest.  It is a justacorp coat for Calico Jack.  I found this fabric at a local thrift shop (for next to nothing) and it was clearly a vintage length of fabric with the words "hand printed" and "imported calico" printed on the selvage.  I just knew it had to be used for this character.  The blue velvet cuffs are old theater curtains my brother, the theater tech, got me.

I think this fabric just screams Calico Jack

Preston, the actor playing Calico Jack, actually hand printed the pattern on his waistcoat fabric with a antique wood block.  It is not uniform in color or lines and is just perfect for his character.

Gem's NaCoSewMo is proving to be profitable for me!

The smock I originally made quite some time ago from this strange crinkly linen using the Smock Pattern Generator. However, the crinkliness made accurate measuring very difficult, and the whole thing ended up being lopsided and enormous.  I finally got around to fixing it. Yay!

The farthingale is from the Simplicity Tudor undergarment pattern (2621, for those keeping track). Instead of using hoop steel, I used 3/8" polyurethane tubing from Home Depot. I also ignored their weird instructions for a drawstring waist that involves sewing the drawstring in place and not enclosing the upper edge of the skirt.

Different day, different hairstyle. For the kirtle, I had every intention of using the corset pattern from the Simplicity pattern. Being a size 6 in the bust and a size 10 in the waist, this didn't work too well. Then I tried using the pattern from the Tudor Tailor, but I had problems with the straps. Finally I said "screw it" and traced out a pattern from a really well fitting bodice and attached a skirt made from rectangular panels pleated to the waist in stacked box pleats. Hey, it works!

The outer fabric is a generic flowery brocade, it's interlined with cotton sheeting and "shoe canvas," whatever that means, boned with cable ties and the bodice islined with yellow linen- the skirt is unlined.

Next project- navy blue cotton velveteen gown to go on top! Exciting!

Mythrin that is one loud and wonderful coat, it must have a great drape to it.

GirlChis, wonderful fit on the kirtle, looking forward to seeing it with the blue velvet over gown.

Mythrin, that' s a funky justacorps! I dig the colours and the front closing ornaments.

GirlChris, that's an impressive progress, and it looks so good!

Hello Everyone

Here is my entry into Margo Anderson's Patterns Iron Dress!  If I can't get the pictures to come through could you please check them on my Picaasaweb? I have the link here:  http://picasaweb.google.com/Cilean/IronDress3Entry#]http://picasaweb.google.com/Cilean/IronDress3Entry#[/url]

Okay here it goes on seeing if I can get the pictures to show up!  :P

The sleeves are pearled on the lace and the Jewlery is from Dragonpipes on eBay, can't say enough about her!  I made everything else you see!

Cilean, that's gorgeous!  So nice to see some of your beautiful work!!  I love the purple sleeves with the gown fabric.  Totally drool-worthy!!

IIRC, you have to use Margo's patterns in the Iron Dress challenge, right?  Do you have any tips for turning them into a Venetian?
