Thanks. We had actors playing historic dead folks. The guy in the second photo was playing the doctor who performed the first appendectomy in the US. We also had Victorian clothing demonstrations and period music. It was a fun time.

The most photographed man I know. I took this one at the Vassar car show this summer.

Robert the White is indeed a popular fellow. I can't talk with him for more than a minute or two before somebody comes up to him for a snapshot.

Some non-Castle shots from my trip to Britain, Scotland, and Ireland in September and October of 2001:

Punting on the Cam in Cambridge, Britain

Where Doctor Who left the TARDIS in Edinburgh, Scotland, when he stepped out for a Latte (that's a joke, in case you're wondering  ;) )

Great stuff, David!  I'm off to Scotland next year to visit my cousin for a few weeks (he married a Scottish girl and moved to the Isle of Skye about a decade ago).  As that's a major part of my heritage, I absolutely can't wait.  Made it to London a couple years ago for a Zeppelin concert, but never got a chance to head north.  Really enjoyed looking at your shots.

Eh, since I won't have any new RenFest shots til Sunday, let's run with the UK theme for a bit.

Hyde Park early morning

Underground station near Paddington

No idea which street this was.  I believe I was lost by this point.

I'll admit it.  The juvenile part of my brain thought this humorous.

Was there a week and didn't make it to one landmark.  For some reason, I spent a lot of time shooting doors...

...and architecture

...and homeless people

And, of course, the main reason I went.

(sigh)

I cannot even formulate a coherent comment at this hour, but... wow...

I'll try again in the morning. Still... wow.

Thanks all.  If anyone would like to donate to the "Get Chris Back to London ASAP" fund, I'm applying for tax-deductible status next week.   :)

Nice castles!

Yeah, he was really sweet (and huge). Here are two pictures of him that I edited.

That is one big dog.  I think you missed a real opportunity to saddle him up and ride him around the next Renaissance Festival.

I also thought the Hyde Park shot was lovely, and the warm sepia is extremely artistic, as is the sort of misty effect of the falloff.  The light contrast in the bitumen of the path really draws you into the texture of the scene, also.

However... I find myself very drawn to the shot of the Underground Station.  I really like the various contrasts here.  Not just the lighting, which is wonderfully enhanced by the black & white processing, but also the feeling that different eras are represented, by both the vaguely neo-Classical architecture and the modernistic, almost Deco-esque inspired shape and design of the sign itself.  The hard edges of the shadows offset by the curves of both the sign and the building offer continuity and visual interest, and the angle offers perspective.  I also love the small irony of the way that the sign, which says Underground, actually seems to point to the section of sky in the upper corner...  It's the opposition created by all of the elements in this shot that really draws me to it, I think.

Oh, uhhhh, sorry... I hadn't planned to offer up a critique or anything, it's just that the more I looked... the more I saw to like.

Beautiful as always, Xanthenes.  Thanks for sharing...  :)

Oh, and I'd certainly donate if I could stow away in your luggage...!!!  :P  Who me... envious?!?  Why, what ever gave you that idea?!?  ::)

A little of my work...

Not my own photography, but the artwork is all mine...

My niece's 1st anniversary present (Paper Anniversary)

Collage created for Tech Center newsletter (forced to use the less-than-perfect photo's provided)

T-Shirt design created entirely in Photoshop CS2

Fire-spinner J-Ro at 2006 Nat'l Rainbow Gathering in Colorado (I did take this one)

Not sure if any of this is quite in keeping with the purpose of this thread, since only one of them is actually my own photography, but I figured if I was going to continue offering my opinion on the work of others I should at least give them the same opportunity...  ::)

As I'm still posting up a few shots I took at MiRF today, here are two of my favorite manipulated photos:

The sky and water are off Sleeping Bay Dunes.  Thought it needed a subject, so I ripped a boat I shot north of San Francisco.

Saw this girl dressed all in yellow at the Toronto train station.  Thought it would have been nice to have her alone on the escalator, but the four people who were on the escalator had other ideas.  Three hours of deleting people and rebuilding the escalator and background later, she was all by herself.
