I've made pirate coats with the Butterick pattern and the simplicity but I haven't found one with the right ...swish.  What do you think of the JP Ryan Military Coat ?  Is it worth the money for the pattern?

Currently working on a new coat , well whole new outfit for the pink Pirate.  He doesn't want me unveil any pictures until after opening day of scarby.  All I can say is that it took me a good 4 hours just to do the applique, and sew the trim on just the FRONT of the coat.  I havent' even gotten to the cuffs much less the actual construction.  It is based off of the Simplicity pattern, but if this turns out like I want it to , he is going to  up the aninty and have me make a silk velvet, and other NICE trims for him for next year.
It is kind of strange watching your personal history become costume.

Yes, I thought it well worth the extra.  Goes together very nicely, as it's well drafted.  Has good 'swish'.

The PP coat sounds intriguing!

I've gotten gold trim like the coats on the top of the page for fair prices on Cheap trims.  The cool thing about it is you can change the tone of the gold by dying it with Rit.  We recently made pirate coats for "Treasure Island" in the costume shop using a ton of it and it really helped the gold to look more natural.  Another tip is to use a product like Steam a Seam, you can finger press it to the back of your trim and then finger press the trim into the shape you desire on your coat, makes it more stable for stiching for a more precise look.

the hint of garb looks great.  I just went through the web site and they have some great trim. I see why it's so evil ::)

I'm curious if his email has changed or something. I have tried to contact him with some questions and he never wrote me back.

Yes the place is evil but I can get nice trims there. :)

I think it depend on when you order.  He does this on the side and also attends faires from what I understand.  I orderd from him on a saturday afternoon , heard from him that night and recieved the trim within a few days.

Here's some in progress photos of my latest project - a 9 tiered patchwork skirt! I plan on wearing this to faire, and after doing the math, the bottom hem is going to be 27 yards! o_O; I'm so excited!

First four rows sewn:

Some of the fabric for the blue/green row:

Leftover patches - Left stack: Same size, Right stack: slightly smaller

The fourth row - 16ft long!

Each row will be gathered onto the previous one... Here are my colors:

1 - Fuschia/hot pink
2 - Red
3 - Orange
4 - Yellow
5 - Light Green
6 - Dark Green
7 - Cerulean Blue
8 - Dark Blue
9 - Purple

And here is my inspiration!!!

This is a true labor of love, with having to cut out each square and what have you. I can't wait til it's done!
