Love the jabot. It seems to be forgotten a lot in steampunk costuming...
Things are shaping up to be...
Pretty. Odd.

LadySeasan

yeah, i love them. thats pretty much my favorite thing to make, especially since i can add all pretty trims and whatnot.

for my husband i made a white cotton jabot with black lace trim (ill take pictures later)
and i have a bunch of other fabrics (from the remnant bin at joanns) in which i will be making all sorts of jabots for everything other than steampunk!

This is a better view of the new gown I wore for RenDevous.
and detail of the embroidery on the green foresleeves. As you can see the foresleeves have a definite wrist cuff which the Simplicity pattern does not.

This one I intended to post in Projects in process; but I ended up finishing it.
This was a garment I made about 15 years ago that needed serious rehabilitation.
In order to make it look like a Henrician doublet with bases over a sleeveless jerkin, I had to remove the skirting and split it down the front. I took the hook and eye closures off the front and made lacing holes. I took the cheesy buttons off the sleeve cuffs and changed them to lace up also. Lastly I made the under pieces and the cod piece.

detail pics are here

DonaCatalina,
The foresleeves are just beautiful. I like the folded over detail. Gives them a real custom look. Your idea? Or from a Portrait?

Lady Kathleen of Olmsted

HUzzah!!  Leave it to Dona Catalina to come up with another distinctive piece of garb!!

Well done, M'Lady!

The pleating is from Lady May Guildford's portait. I can't take credit for the idea. I just added embroidery to it.

Here is a small pic of my finished smock with the "blackwork" embroidery on the sleeves, and the cuff/collar ruffles. It was very comfortable in our 90°F heat with 90% humidity. The rest of the gown... not so much.  ;D I haven't been able to find a larger photo, yet. This pic was taken at the end of the second day of the Dubuque Renaissance Faire this past weekend.

The embroidered fabric was found at JoAnn Fabrics, and is 100% cotton. I cut strips of the fabric to create the cuff and collar ruffles, measuring carefully to make sure that the embroidery was a consistent distance from the edge of the ruffle. The best part is, when I put on my three-paned sleeves (I wore them Saturday only), the embroidery lined up with the sleeve openings!!!!! I used the Margo Anderson high-necked smock pattern, and added 5.5 inches to the length of the sleeve. I also think I ended up having a wider sleeve than the pattern but I can't remember making a conscious decision to do so (it may have been an Oops!). I was pleased with the fullness as well, and was happy to have pretty sleeves since it was so hot out.  :)

Oh, Lady R, that's GORGEOUS!!!  I want to see closeups of the sleeves!

I can totally see what you were telling me about the sleeve length, and the fullness is fabulous. (I actually gave up on the Margo Anderson sleeve pattern because when I attached the sleeves to the smock, the underarm gussets hit me at my waist. <snork>)

So beautiful, and *such* an inspiration. I can't wait to get started on my gown now!
