Barbury Castle is an Iron Age hill fort situated in Wiltshire, England.
map coordinates 51.48456, -1.78681
The site was first occupied some 2500 years ago, and was then in use during the Roman occupation of the area. The single road passing directly east-west through the fortification's center is evocative of typical Roman Castra.

Antrim Castle or Massereene Castle was erected in stages between 1610 and 1666.
Map coordinates 54.715666, -6.223909
According to the Illustrated Dublin Journal of 1861, the castle was built by Sir John Clotworthy, later created Viscount Massereene.
However, archeological evidence indicates that he built his castle on the site of an earlier castle. The Norman motte and bailey on the grounds has been dated to the 11th century.

The ruins of Chateau de Ganne (eleventh and twelfth centuries) are located near the river in Grez-sur-Loing, France.
Map coordinates 48.316369, 2.691924
Legend associates this castle with Charlemagne and Roland as being the home of Ganelon the traitor and his father Lord Ganne.
Unfortunately another castle in Pommeraye makes claim to the same location, so sorting fact from legend is difficult.

Chateau de Pommeraye is a castle built in the eleventh century by the Pommeraye family in the Calvados. It was largely rebuilt in the seventeenth and nineteenth century.
Map coordinates  48.9062 ,-0.4174
Another candidate for the home of Lord Ganne and the traitor Ganelon, the ruins of Chateau de Ganne rise on a hillside to the southeast on the Pommeraye property. Map coordinates 48.901819, -0.409192. This fortification was dependent on the family of La Pommeraye, who participated in the conquest of England alongside William, and received in recompense important possessions in Devon and Somerset. In the present state of our knowledge, it can be reported to the eleventh and twelfth centuries, but seems to have its roots until the tenth century.
