Thanks for the comments, folks!

As far as keeping the mylar centered, I just eyeballed it, adjusting the strip as I went. I have an extremely limited amount of time to finish this, and the final width of the strip was more important than the pressed seam allowances.

Great job with the trim!!  I picked up some of that same jacquard ribbon, but decided it was too narrow for what I'm working on. Great idea building it up!

Thanks again, folks!

Here are more in-progress pics.

The very nearly complete skirt, over my forepart (which is hanging weirdly, due to no hoops)

A test piece, for the looped tabs for the shoulders and waist treatment. Love this, and can't wait to get the bodice started!

Hope to stay on track! We leave for vacation next Wednesday, and I have a million things to do this weekend. I hope to get the bodice cut out tonight.

Well, it may not be wearable, but it is a sewing project for faire. The kids got one of those canopied wagons from Grandma, and I decided to make my own canopy for it. The top is done, with the scallops, which are double sided, different colors, and piped in canary yellow. The actual top it a bottom cloth, as I had some, and figured it would hold up well under weight and general wear and tear. Set into top, not visible in the picture, is a heavy cord which will act as a curtain rod. I am just now starting the sides. Its a diamond motley style curtain in the same colors, four part, that will be openable and wrap around when closed to give the little ones some shelter from weather or sun for nap time. So far this thing has been a learning experience, as I was over confident on how simple it should be. My math and measurements for just about everything has been off, and needed to be adapted so far. But, considering there is no pattern that I know of for this, and the model is odd shaped, and flexible, I think its going smashingly well so far.

Two of four curtains are done. Again, my math has been wrong on those too. I ended up having to go out for more fabric just to finish the two, let alone the entire thing. Also, the was some kind of spill on the top, that bleached out a large spot, so I will probably have to replace the large top panel. I may do one larger panel that will wrap all the way around the back end, and not be openable at the back, but I haven't decided yet. Per request, I have a couple progress/action shots of it.

I would love to be trecked around in a cart like that, it came out great! Maybe instead of replacing the whole top you could do some sort if aplique to cover it?

Howill, that is OUTSTANDING.  Really amazing. Well done.  (Bummer about the top! Can you paint over it with fabric paint or something? That's my "anything to not undo all that work!!" suggestion!)

I think this is one of the coolest projects I've ever seen in these forums.

Tripletap

Thanks to all of your help, my first sewing project, Shirt, Butterick 5656 is getting closer to done!!!
Here are some pics of my progress, I have not attached the cuffs, or done the finishing, but I am getting there, and have tomorrow off!!!

The shoulders look lopsided, but I think that will change when I put a button on the collar, should even-out. (I Hope) :-[

Kate XXXXXX

That looks like it's coming along nicely.

If you measure the shoulders you can check if they are really even...  I suspect they are dragging on his T shirt.

LadyStitch

I've made this pattern 6+ times in the past year. I can tell you the shoulders may set off the natural shoulder a  little but I agree with Kate. It may be caught on his t shirt.  This is a very loose shirt so it will be a bit baggy on anyone.  Good job. :)
It is kind of strange watching your personal history become costume.

DragonWing

Yeahhh, Congrats on your first project. It reminds me of my high school home ec class when I made my first shirt. Good job.
I too agree it is most likely dragging on the t-shirt.
