Lady Rebecca

Yesterday, I made an 1896-ish fitted jacket (with fake blouse underneath) and pleated skirt. The fake blouse part was out of my stash, the rest was given to me buy the costume designer (cotton? really? and unlined? whatever...). I started around 12:30pm, had all but the waistband and one sleeve cut out and done by a fitting at 8:30 (having to rethread the serger slowed me down). I then had to take apart the peplum of the jacket, resew all the seams in the back because I didn't realize she's swaybacked, and take in the front waist a couple inches. Plus I did the skirt waistband, and was finished by about midnight. Not too terrible, though it still needs the collar and buttonholes. I have one more complete suit to make (for the other cast of that role) and a blouse for myself. And hopefully, I'll be able to finish them by Monday, even though I'm working all weekend. I'll have pics soon!

It is after 2 am, and I am up on a new project, damn my new addiction!!!!
I use to be up this late at the bars and clubs, now I am up this late yelling at patterns, and trying to thread needles with blurry vision.
Keep telling myself I have done enough tonight, but there is always that one more seam.

I have learned, when I get frustrated, I need to step away for a little bit, have a beer or harass ya'll a little or something to clear my head.
Then get back to it.

Rosamundi

Ooooh, the "just one more seam" thing . . . so glad I am not the only one. I, too, was up way too late last night doing demolition on a jumper (thrift store! gorgeous rose-pink linen!) that I'm re-making into a circle skirt.
Garb: lovingly hand-washed, gently pressed, and hung in climate-controlled closet. Mundane clothing: usually on floor.

Oh yes the one more seam...  Usually when I start cussing, screaming and throwing things around at night, Hubby usually has to step in and tell me I need to step away from the sewing area and either watch some tv or go to bed.
May the stars always shine upon you and yours.

Yep, when I start to get frustrated and making errors, it's time to step away. Then start fresh the next day.
When I do that, I'm always amazed, because I'm like "what was the problem".   ???  ::)

Kate I learned it was time to go to bed when you lean over to thread the needle and you fall asleep with your head on top of the sewing machine arm.  ;D Same show, I learned you can lean over to examine a pattern closely and fall asleep on the pattern.  ::)
After that 3 errors, or 3 needle breaks, go to bed and start new the next morning.

BTW I'm guilty of the late night sewing last night. Costumes are due Monday morning. I still have 1 halter top taffeta dress to make, alter a nurses uniform, hem 3 dresses, hem a robe, and put the sleeves and zippers in a red dress.  Oh forgot... sew decorative chains onto two barbarian outfits.
It is kind of strange watching your personal history become costume.

I landed another frock commission today...  So the list changes again!

Lady Kathleen of Olmsted

The over skirt of the Pelican Portrait gown is ready to Cartridge pleat. Then the fun part comes in hand sewing it all onto the waistband.

Photos coming after I get it all together.

For me I've found the best way to defeat the "one more seam" monster, is to listen to a book on tape. When I start getting really tired, I shut down once I reach the end of a chapter. It worked tonight. I only sewed until 11:30 which is amazing. Only a week to faire and I have about 55 or 6 different projects to finish until then. Will have to post pictures soon.

Progress so far on the Pelican Portrait gown.

The Chemise, Neck, Wrist ruffs, underskirt, and other Undergarments, I did late last year.

Over and Underskirt with forepart. I still have embellishing to do on the forepart.

I still have pearls to secure better.

Lady Kathleen you continue to amaze me with your incredible talents!

LadyStitch - sounds like a working weekend! Hang in there; we're thinking of you!

Lady Kathleen - Wow. Your work motivates me to graduate from T-tunics sooner rather than later. Verily wow!
