Excellent find!  Well done. And a glorious colour!

Hancocks had their brown bag sale yesterday.  I happened to stop in to exchange something and ended up spending $60.  BUT, that included 3yrds of $8 a yard remnants at 60% off then 10% for the brown bag!  Not to mention my two coupons, all the sales, and then 10% off EVERYTHING!  I think I had to have had at least $150 worth of stuff. :D

I went to Joanns yesterday, and I was really good and didn't buy the red tag fabric I wanted (it wasn't 50% off). But now I'm having second thoughts! I missed out on a forest green cotton velveteen and ivory cotton velveteen for $7/yd, and a blue and forest green brocade for $6/yd. I hope this doesn't haunt me!

But I did buy my first iron!

I went to Joann's today and I found 12 yards of dupoini silk for $4 a yard in a blush/champagne color. Now to figure what to do with it? They also had a scarlet red dupoini silk on sale for $6 a yard and the slubs are very small, so trying to figure out how to get up to 12 yards of that also.

Dustin, oh yes,  goodwill can be a treasure trove if you're patient!  I've found lots of ren goodies there over the years.  It's hit or miss though, sometimes you score, sometimes not.

On another note...I'm so bummed.  The Walmart 2 miles from my house is currently renovating into a super center, and have apparently stopped carrying fabrics. I know this was discussed at length here a couple years ago, but I was hoping it wouldn't happen to my local store.  I know Walmart never carried really fantastic fabrics, but for my needs they sufficed. They actually had some pretty decent broadcloth in a nice range of colors, and I could always find decent basic muslin and occasionally gauze.  They even had some very pretty "homespun" cotton in some nice rich colors that I made a great skirt out of.  Now I'll have to drive over a half hour to JoAnns, grumble...

I feel your pain.  I have 3 Wal-Marts in a 10-15 mile radius around me and all of them one after the other got rid of their fabric sections.  The last great find of fabric I got was the fabric I used to make the dress in my picture.  They didnt always have the best, but when you have a need to get something at midnight and every where else was closed, it was nice that they were open and at least had something.
May the stars always shine upon you and yours.

I've only actually been in the JoAnns that's a 1/2 hour away  once.   While there I asked one of the sales ladies to show me where the cotton gauze was.  You know what she told me?  She said "we don't carry anything like that here, you have to go to a drug store, they'll have it in the first aid section."  I'm not making this up!  Although I've been sewing for years, I'm only a very basic sewer, and am still very much a beginner, but goodness.. You'd think someone who works there would know what I was talking about! I don't expect a store employee to always know every single thing about what they sell, but it's not like I was asking for some high end exotic hard to find fabric!  Oh well, maybe she was a beginner too.

I laugh because I had a similar experience in May trying to buy some guaze fabric from JoAnn's.  I was thankful another customer, who knew what I was looking for, was there and helped me find it.  I've had problems with trying to get help finding fabric from the workers at JoAnns.

As someone who use to work for Joann's type place you would be surprised about the knowledge behind the counter.
We had a MANAGER who only knew her fabrics because she had to order them, and kept ordering the wrong one's her boss was going to fire her unless she wised up REAL FAST.

Then you had me, who knows alot about fabrics, but I had taken a sabbatical for 3 months, and they had rearranged things.  I just had not learned where everything was yet.  Then add in that people would rearrange, add new during the night shift and I we were not sure what we had until we had a chance to walk around.

Then again you had Joyace at our local Joann's.  She is a retired elemetry school teacher who is working at Joann's because she wants something to do.  You ask for anything obsure or what they have in any color she knows where it is and how much is on the bolt.  I love having her do my cutting, unfortunatly on busy days I get the girls that are a bit air headed and more intrested when they get off work vs what they are cutting.
It is kind of strange watching your personal history become costume.

Cutting fabric...that is a sore subject with me!
I have had material stretched out before a cut! I always say, nicely, don't stretch it out and remeasure, please. One time I wasn't paying attention, needing 3 yards, I went home and found I had 2 1/2 yards!  >:(
WalMart seems to of made room for electronics, after taking out the fabric departments. Who can afford all that? I can't! LOL!
We have a lot of Amish/Mennonite families in the area and I think WalMart, made a huge mistake!
Jo-Ann's is way to pricey for me, unless I have a coupon and make it to a red tag sale.  :(

My Walmart still has craft stuff, yarn, notions, etc, but it's much smaller than it used to be.They got rid of the fabrics, but the cutting counter is still there.  Makes no sense.

Hoowil

Out of the 5 WalMarts within any kind of reasonable driving distance from home, only one kept their cutting table. One has 'craft fabric' in pre-cut, measurd bundles, but its way pricey. I mean, if I'm shopping at WalMart, do you really think I've going to spend $12-15 on a 1.5 yard bundle of 45" calico? But hey, all of them carry sewing machines still. No thread, one doesn't even have scissors, but they all have machines..... Makes me wonder if they just didn't want ot move the stock.

If I wanted to drive a hour or more, there is a Super WalMart in Ithaca NY, that still carries fabrics. It is a college town and have a Performing Arts Dept.
There is also another WalMart, that did go Super, that has a fabric dept in Auburn NY. The selection isn't what it used to be.
The WalMart's near me, also sell sewing machines, few thread selection and yarn up the wazoo! LOL!  :D

A few months ago they closed the Wal-Mart that was 2miles from my house and moved it 35 miles away. I do not like the new Wal-mart even though they still carry fabric. I miss the old store, because I knew where everything was and just about how much it cost. When they closed, the whole shopping strip closed, I'm sad everytime I have to drive 35 miles for something I used to be able to get and get home in less than 30 min.

Lady Neysa

Lady Lil,  I'm  not sure if I'm going to be a fan of our new super walmart either.  Getting rid of the fabrics was only part of it.  There is a supercenter in the next town over, I'll have to check and see if they got rid of their fabrics also.  I've never liked the bigger supercenter, I hate feeling like I'm walking a mile to get from one end of the store to the other, and just don't like the layout.  The checkout lines are crazy, it seems like they have  tons of "grocery only"  lines open, and not hardly any others, and I still always endup stuck in a line with my 2 or 3 items and the person in front of me has a cart full of groceries.  I always preferred the local smaller walmart, I hope I don't hate it when they're done remodeling.  If the other store still has their fabrics, I'll go there.  I'm spoiled, I don't like driving over half hour to Joanns unless its something I really need.
