...and just to encourage those of you who are new to sewing...I started sewing about 30yrs ago when I made an indian dress for Kindergarten (giving away my age).  Even so, if you'd seen some of my early gowns you'd grimmace.  I sew professionally now and am blessed to do what I love.  I say all that because I know there are some of the members who are new to sewing and I remember being there.  Learning techniques and skills is a labor of love, I've cried over costumes, cussed them, pulled way too many all nighters and ripped out enough seams to go around the world.  I'll admit, I cartridge pleated this skirt three times before I got it right!!!  Not to mention I had to put pearls down the front because dress pulls in the front and shows the not so invisible zipper LOL.  I think my motto is going to be if you can't make it fake it!  So, always keep trying new things, pushing yourself and if you mess up then it means your just like the pros!

Wow, what wonderful work.  I love that green you have for the horse.  And your dress is just wonderful.
May the stars always shine upon you and yours.

Absolutely amazing! As a beginner, I love seeing this "as advanced as it gets" work and having opportunity to discuss it with the experts!

Lady Harrogate, SPLENDID! (I started sewing twenty-five years later than you, and how I wish I'd gotten a better head start!)

But I also want to say, your PHOTOGRAPHS are so well done!  Any tips there?

Thanks ladies! I am so proud of that gown, it may not be perfect, but hell, I finished it lol!  I may not even be able to wear it next year (depending on how much weight I lose), but it it will be worn A LOT!

which leaves me to question-there is a thread on in what order do you put on your layers of your gown ensemble. My question is, how do you travel (by car) in your gown ensemble?  Do you get dressed at home-maybe put your chemise, & bloomers on, and then wait to you get to the fair for everything else?

I travel to faire already dressed.

I often have seen others finish dressing when they get to faire. It is a personal prefference.

The only thing I put on at fair is my farthingale. And maybe my hat (depending on how big the hat is and whether it can be worn comfortably in the car, or whether it needs to be "arranged" at home in front of a mirror first).
