The skirt is stunning and I am equally impressed with your documentation on how it was made. Again WOW!!!!

The Petticoats of Doom!

The first two are done.  Only the red one to go.  Even with FTL sewing, they take almost a whole day to make.

Red one today...

Kate, was the gathering done by hand or by ruffler/pleater?  Also how did you do the waistband?  The theater is wanting new petticoats made from the remains of other's.  I'm looking for ideas :)
It is kind of strange watching your personal history become costume.

Ooooh, that underskirt is so yummy I would have worn it as my main costume!

Mistress Kathleen

Love the slips... I too am looking at making new slips for our theatre too.. Looks like lots of work...

The only time I tried gathering this sort of thing with the ruffler, it tore holes in the net.  Someone on another board told be she gets brilliant results using the gathering foot on the serger.  Some time I'll try that...

Meanwhile, I just used a strong but not heavy thread, put in a line of long machine stitches, and pulled it up in sections to fit.

Waistbands were done by sewing the wide elastic into a ring and divvying it up into sections.  Pin the waist of the petti to it and stretch out to stitch.  Stitched on with a three step zigzag.  I'll take some pix of that bit when I get to it on the red one.

I've got a WONDERFUL 50's petticoat my tutor made me similar to yours.  I am so glad you lined yours.  I can't sit because the tulle scratches the geebus out of me.
Wonderful job BTW :)

Lady Rebecca

I gather my crinolines by hand. Am I crazy? Probably. But I just find it really easy, and even a bit relaxing. I just made one last week that's a white 3-tier crinoline that hits a little above the knee, with a 12yd hem. It's in the picture of the pink skirt I posted in the in progress thread. I also have a pink one with lace at the bottom (just one layer) and a really poofy bright purple one that I made based off the Alice Lon pattern (though I don't think it's quite that big). The only real problem is storing them!

You must have the patience of a saint, lol!!! I don't mind doing several yards, but I don't think I have the attention span for 12 yards... but I am really enamored with all of the victorian ruffles, so I might be tempted to try. : )
