Lady Rebecca

I hit the notions jackpot at Walmart tonight! They're trying to move out the remainder of their sewing-related stuff, since they're in the middle of a remodel. So buttons were 25c, and trim/ribbon/bias tape was 50c. So this is what I walked out with!

Over 60 buttons, worth over $37, for about $13. 15 yds of lace for $2.50, 3 pkgs beaded trim and 3 pkgs bias tape for $3 total, and 18 yds of assorted ribbon for less than $2.50. Score!

Oh, you got the loot!!!  Nice haul...  ;)

Oh, my... I think I need a meeting.  I fell off the wagon with a resounding THUD yesterday...   :-[

Hancock Fabric is having a BLOWOUT SALE (sorry, it's in 5ft caps on the storefront sign), and I spent a bit over $70, mostly on gorgeous trims that were from 40-80% off (mostly 80%)... and now I have all the trim I need (and then some!) for those pouches that I'm finally starting today!  I'll take a pic of my haul a bit later... but it's right around 60 yds of various trims, plus 6 yds of fire engine red crinkle cotton gauze at $2.50 per yd, 5 pkgs. of gorgeous large beads for drawstring ends, 10 strands of heavy brass spacer beads and bead caps and a couple of spools of upholstery thread!  WewT!!!   :D

Oh, uhhh... I mean, I'm soooo ashamed.   :-[

Ohh that crinkle cotton *drool* I love that stuff but I have a bugger of a time sewing it

I am mad as heck at the wally world in my area, they killed the fabrics which means that I have to go 100 miles plus to get fabric or ANY sewing stuff.

Hobby Lobby just opened up in my neighborhood. There's a Michael's in the plaza across the street, and a JoAnn down the road. Three craft stores with a quarter-mile radius. I don't have enough money in my wallet or space in my basement for such insanity!  :o

Lady Ellie

My name is Lady Ellie and I have started a fabric stash. It all started with me wanting to get things for Irish garb. Then wanted to get things to make milord something. While in store with my mother I spotted a beautiful sage jacquard. Was there enough to make something one day ? Had it measured 31/2 yards for $8.50 . Surely I can make something with that one day. In wal mart the other day again with mother. Saw a bolt of jacquard ... ( buttercup yellow) 61/2 yds. Now in hiding to be put in stash tote later.  I guess it's official now.... I'm addicted.

No I don't need FA ( Fabricholics Anonymous ) yet.  ;D

Rosamundi

Sign me up for the nearest FA meeting, please. I actually dumpster-dove this weekend for  an enormous buttercream-gold damask curtain that somebody had tossed. Thank goodness that nowadays I can call it "upcycling."

The kicker:  only 7 families on our street share that dumpster. So, unless I duck down inside the car window next season, somebody's gonna recognize their drapes getting ready to party at faire.
Garb: lovingly hand-washed, gently pressed, and hung in climate-controlled closet. Mundane clothing: usually on floor.

You are my new hero!!!  I'm a DD from waaaay back (although it's been a long time since I've actually climbed into one to retrieve a treasure, mind you... :D ), and I love to hear about new Adventures in Upcycling!!!  I live in a small college town, and lots of the kids will leave things out beside the dumpsters for people to pick through instead of just trashing them, and I look forward to graduation every year, because most of them only take their clothes home with them!

Hope to see a pic of that damask!

Slight highjack!

When hubby and I lived in an apartment I found the best dumpster treasure ever!
You had to take your trash to the big dumpster in back.  I usually just walked.  There was only one light back there and not that good.  As I walked up I saw this strange yet familiar shadowy shape.  I walked up the side of the dumpster and lo and behold there was a carousel horse!  Full size and not a speck of dust on it!  I immediately called hubby on the cell and said get your butt over here with the truck.  We took it home and looked up the manufacturer info.  It was a custom style value at about $3500! :o

Wow, a carousel horse? Amazing! Hey, thanks for the props, too . . . I was half-abashedly re-thinking that post so I'm glad to hear that others, um, upcycle as well. :-)

I have to say I was quite proud of myself this past weekend.  I went into Joan's and actually got enough fabric to do a VELVET cloak with a satin lining for what it would have cost me to make a microsude or pane cloak with cheap lining.  I was dancing went I left the store. $140 of materials all for $70!  Got to love Joann's 50% off coupons.
It is kind of strange watching your personal history become costume.

So next year on October 26, 2011 (yep this one just past) Hubby & I have our 20th Wedding Anniversary.  We had a very lovely traditional wedding, more to please my family than anything else. it was lovely I loved every minute, but now that we are older and we want to renew our vows to each other, we really want to do it in Elizabethan Splendor!!!! LOL

This means I get a whole new need to stash even more fabric!!! Charge ON!

Here is my latest addition to the stash, this is for my Best Friend who will be the Matron of Honor:

Okay the steal? This is 6 yards by 60" wide via eBay and I got the whole for $21.00 total!!

Feeling pretty chipper about this one!

WOW-- I do like that fabric.
I was feeling guilty because I bought 2 yards of a russet silk blend with tan diamond pattern because I really didn't like the brown jacquard I had to go with some teal velvet.

A couple of months back I was hunting for something vaguely suitable for making and 18th C polonaise...  Needed to be from the stash or dirt cheap.  I was prepared to dye it.

A friend of  friend sent me TWO BOLTS of beautiful linen with a lightly sprigged pattern:

One bolt was 21 metres, the other was 23...

I ripped one in half and dyed it.

The glory: She paid 49 PENCE a meter for this lot, and then GAVE it to me - someone she has yet to meet!  The sewing world ROCKS!
