Lady Catherine

nicely done everyone!!

I have been absent for so long now....   ::)  SO, here is the latest version of my garbing. The bodice and overskirt started as a basic set from Midnight Breeze designs, but has been trimmed, altered, and pearled to within an inch of its life....

I has been taken in by myself to reflect a 40 pound loss, has new sleeves, new undersleeves, and partlett. New bloomers, new hat, and jewelry all done by me.

And now, she is Mme de Pompadour, Marquess.

I love it!   Lady Catherine you are simply divine!  The hat is fabulous!

Lady Rebecca

After two more nights of sewing, my reversible Elizabethan corset is now finished (the binding isn't perfect, but I'm okay with it), my Frankensmock is completely done (though I'm still debating about a different type of neck closure, since I'm not sure I like the one I have), and my cartridge pleated overskirt has been attached to the waistband (just fyi, machine eyelets do not like to work through two layers each of cotton velvet and cotton duck!). I should have some pictures tomorrow.

Kathleen MacLeod

I recently finished my very first bodice! It (and the skirt in the following pics) were made off Simplicity 3623. I lengthened the bodice as I worked by 4 inches in the front and 2 inches in the back so I could pretend my torso isn't stubby :) I never got around to taking decent pictures of it, so these are random not-necessarily-so-detailed pictures from faire days. Sorry about the poor quality/angles! I'll post better ones when I find my camera.

The full ensemble. Stupid basket, covering up the fit of the bodice:

As this was a "Quick! Try to finish the night before!" job, it ended up being too big and I didn't have time to fix it. I've since taken it in and eliminated the bunching problems visible here:

Looks good.  How did the pattern work for you?  I'm thinking about making that one next.
May the stars always shine upon you and yours.

The pattern worked really well for me! I'd qualify myself as an advanced beginner, maybe a novice, but I got through it without any major issues. It was my first adventure with boning and I had some trouble with the channels, but that was me, not the pattern. The directions were easy to understand and it was fairly easy to put together. I'd highly recommend it.

The only caution I'd give is that that pattern is sized big. I saw similar comments on PatternReview and I experienced the same problem. I cut it a size smaller than I should have measured for and still ended up taking it in about half an inch on each side.

thanks for the advise, that pattern has been sitting on my desk and I have been leery about the bodice but from the way you tweaked it is the way I want a bodice to fit. Now I gotta try it lol

Kathleen MacLeod

Go for it! It was my first experience ever tweaking a pattern, but even the lengthening went smoothly. I've decided I love this pattern :)

I forgot to ask this earlier.

Is is a comfortable bodice?
Does it give a lift where it should?

Kathleen MacLeod

I think it's quite comfortable. Of course, I've only got the wimpy plastic boning from Joann's in there, so that probably helps ;D

I'm honestly not sure if it gives a lift or not! I wear a corset underneath my chemise, so the bodice isn't left trying to really support anything.

New linen skirt.  We got a great deal on some bright olive green Linen fabric.  The Pink Pirate volenteered me to make the skirt for a skit he was doing at work. Some how in my addedled mind I thought it was next week and not today, so I was up late sewing it last night.  When it was over they let me keep the skirt. Yay Lady Stitch has a new skirt for TRF.  Funny how the small things make your day.
It is kind of strange watching your personal history become costume.

Finally!!  Some photos of the Victorian/Goth ensemble I made last year at this time, along with the Black Lace gimp(under blouse) and Hat I made just last Wednesday. I was at the Women's Expo on Saturday, 16 October, mixing History with Politics. I dressed as Molly Brown again to great effect. I explained Molly Brown's Social and Political activism that helped Women and the poor rise up. Perople did not know that about Molly Brown other  than she was a survivor ofthe TITANIC sinking.

The Gimli tunic and bracers made their debut today!

They're not technically finished (lots of detail work still to add), but they're finished for this season, which was the goal! One day to spare! LOL

And closeups so you can see some better detail of color, and the bracers Milord made:
