Typically I sew in seperate hooks and eyes into a piece but I bought some hook and eye tape and I need to get it into my Doublet and I have no idea how this works!

Anyone done this? Have any examples? Suggestions? Glue? LOL

Thanks in advance

You can use a machine, but whip stitching it by hand is the best method.

I would suggest fastening the the hooks and eyes so they're parallel, stitch it in place and then machine sew it to the fabric. Pretty much like a zipper.

If that fails - glue! ;) (J/K)

I've used  the super eye tape several times for lacing rings. I just machine sewed down the inside edge to give it strength, the whip-stiched the outside edge, under the eyes.

Cheaptrims.com you can purchase huge amounts at once go in with friends! I purchased mine for $3.00 per yard from a little place in San Jose, CA.  It is something I shall be checking out while down at LA Garment District when next I get down there!!

Almost there!

If you look on ebay, you can also find it for about $3/yd. That's where I got mine, though I honestly just winged it (is that a word?) when I went to sew it in, and since the bodice is 3000 miles away, I don't remember what I did!

Thanks for the heads up on that! I will have to look into that, but seldom have found a need for hook and eye tapes.

OF the places I shop for fabrics, I have seen the hook and eye tapes for $3 a foot.

When I do need hook and eyes for bodices and such, I get the very large, heavy duty ones.

Hi,

I just finished a bodice using the hook and eye tape and there are two ways I tried sewing the tape.  The first is using the zipper foot on your machine and make baste stitch line to line up the hook/eyes, pin and then hand sew in.  I did use the heavy duty hook and eye tape so, I was not worried about the bodice opening up.

I was curious to find away to machine sew in the tape and I found this blog and did this method which was fairly simple.   I found that the tape was more securely in place after using the sewing machine.

Hope this helps.
