Merlin i think you hurt the poor hairys feeling.  :P
I really wasn't trying to hurt anyone's feelings...  I love Rhianna the Troll, but I probably wouldn't kiss her, which is fair enough—she probably wouldn't kiss me!
Sure she would ;)  I know these things lol

So, I'm a bit late to this discussion, but I have just GOT to ask...where on earth are you folks finding glitter made out of metal and glass???

Not that I'm a huge consumer of glitter, but I've never seen anything sold as glitter made of those materials.  Even the cheap stuff at the craft stores around me is plastic.  Hard, nasty, scratchy plastic, but still plastic.

Thank you dear fairies for allowing me to interrupt your conversation to satisfy my curiosity. :)

I admit, hearing that some glitter is made metal and glass scares me to no end.   :o

People have mentioned the glitter bombs, religious matters, and such, but I've been wondering if any of the Fae who say, blow bubbles or give out gifts to kids have had any negative feedback? This year at TRF whenever my friend and I started blowing bubbles, I noticed it tended to cause kids to bolt away from their parents and towards us... and I'm pretty sure there are some parents who might see the shiny stones most give out as choking hazards. Anything a fairly new Fae should look out for there?  :-\

I have been making bubble machines and bubbles since 1983, originally as an accessory to my kite flying. The bubbles were used to track the ground winds. Bubbles should be made away from hazards such as traffic, uneven ground,  play ground equipment, and bodies of water. In the context of Faire, other considerations  should be kept in mind. Try not to bubble where it might create a blockage to the flow of pedestrian traffic. Avoid making bubbles near food or craft vendors. Bubbles can stain fabric and leather. Stay away from any stage or venue where performances are taking place. You need to watch the nipperkin like a hawk and be ready to step in to prevent injury in case of flailing of swords, sticks, arrows or umbrellas at the bubbles.

What I do, when I had "faerie eggs" to give away, the small kids, I'd give the item to the parent.  Older kids who hopefully don't stick anything and everything in their gob, I may give directly.

I make the bubbles with just my hands. I do get some complaints, mostly they can't get the kids to leave. Typically though I hear more complaints from the vendors.. not one of them wants bubbles on their merchanise but yeah make sure that the area is clear out of traffic and make sure the kids aren't being too rowdy... I have bubble wands for extra windy days, and what will happen is the older kids will use the fake weapons and things... I make the run that they can only use hands, to help avoid injury... but collisions happen. Parents should be watching and so far most of the time I don't hear anything, but if it looks like there is going to be a problem. I simply stop and remind the kids that there are others there that want to play too and no one wants to cry.

As for the trinkets, I use natural shells which are a choking hazard my rule is the smaller the child the bigger the shell, and if I feel they might eat it, I don't give it to them until a parent clears me first. Mind you some large children are much younger than they appear, so I have the rule, unless you look 8, the parent knows what I am about to hand you. Though I found my exception to that rule, special needs children love me and get the same treatment, but I always let the parent know. A wonderful 20 year old young man came to play with me, and well.. .my shell ended up in his mouth... just as an aside.
Bubbles are pure magic... if you don't believe me watch any man, woman, or child chase a bubble down the road.

And I for one definately appreciate all of this from you!  My girls have all of their shells and other trinkets in a special box and and they love to make bubbles with their hands !  =)

I truly admire the fae as they make this senile old man feel young at heart and often distract me from whatever trouble I am dealing with at the moment. I have never seen bubbles blown by hand Im dissapointed Just how do you do this and please dont say with magic.

   About glitter:
I use the club stuff available through Sally beauty (.99 cents a vial) since it will not come off if applied properly.
I wear contacts with all my garb, and have never had problems with my glitter getting into my eyes or transferring to garb.  Even when I have it on my face.  Cosmetic glitter is the only way to go IMHO.
However, even this stuff will blow around if you don't follow directions, but with proper skin prep (clean) and application with a large powder brush, the glitter will go one evenly (fingers and sprinkling are a big no-no) and stay put until you wash it off, I've found that it's even sweat proof.
I don't think there is any 'safe' ammunition for glitter bombs though.

So it won't say magic... but the amount of patience required is astounding. You simply mix up appropriately strong bubble mix. I have a receipe which involves dish soaps, water, and some syrups. Then you cover your hand and slide it open to make a circle like you would have with a bubble wand. When you are done blowing, you slide the circle closed and you have a bubble with nothing but your hand.

The picture above is a bubble mid progress.

The one below... is the finished product.

Bubbles are pure magic... if you don't believe me watch any man, woman, or child chase a bubble down the road.

Well, uhhh... guess I changed the subject from religion, huh?  :o  My glitter comment was really just meant as a joke...  :-\

There's actually something just a little magical about that bit of glimmer and shine you get on your fingers from one of Twig's favors, or the twinkle on the tip of my little girls nose from the hug she got from Queen Titania... or Queen Bonnie.  :D  I don't even mind the very powdery sort on our garb, but I guess that's also one of the reasons I hesitate to step up into Nobles, or really even upper class merchant.  It's fun to wear pretty things... but I do like not having to worry about what the consequences of a simple hug might be.  :)

I think we'd better start giving hugs by class from now on!  Royals and Nobles first, then Gentry, Merchants and peasants... and THEN our Magical friends!  ;)  Who knew that glitter could lead to segregation?!?  :D

Rani my love, i know youre not saying i am low class... ;)
